What are the responsibilities and job description for the Preschool Teacher Assistant position at SILVERDALE BAPTIST ACADEMY?
The Preschool Teacher Assistant works cooperatively with the classroom teacher to discuss and aid in the implementation of daily lesson plans in accordance with the current curriculum. Performs activities that ensure each group's safety, involvement, and creativity. Supports the classroom teacher with the schedule of the day, ensuring consistency for students.
Responsibilities
Assist the teacher with all activities, including, but not limited to, housekeeping, record keeping, snack, and meal service.
- Conduct daily small-group activities for a small group of children
- Promote individualized attention for children by freeing the teacher from routine duties
- Cooperates with the classroom teacher in keeping a neat classroom
- Provides leadership within the afternoon classroom and assumes lead teacher responsibilities when needed, including in the teacher’s absence.
- Understands that education is an atmosphere, a discipline, a life, and a science of relations
- Understands that teaching is a ministry and that their role is to be the “Living Curriculum” for students
- Maintains a professional standard of dress and an engaging personality
- Prompt and continuous attendance on campus
- Irregular schedule changes may be required, including nights and/or weekends
Required Skills/Abilities:
- Seeks to understand the principles of child development and preschool educational methods
- Able to collaborate as partners with the classroom teacher and parents
- Has basic working knowledge of information about the SBA Preschool
- Is teachable in spirit and seeks to gain excellent problem-solving skills
- Expresses a genuine warmth and concern for the child, understands developmental needs
- Attends all required faculty meetings
- Completes required annual Professional Development
- Ability to assume responsibility for the classroom without supervision
- Is willing to obtain a certificate with the Tennessee Early Childhood Training Alliance or a Child Development Associates or complete college coursework toward an Early Childhood degree

Minimum Qualifications
- High School Diploma
- Has experience working with children in a structured setting, or a Child Development Associates or equivalent, or college coursework in Early Childhood Education, or a Tennessee Early Childhood Training Alliance Certification
Physical Demands and Work Environment
- Must be able to crawl, walk, run, stoop, and move quickly
- Must be able to lift up to 40 lbs
- Must be able to see and hear continuously, as well as speak frequently
