Silver Valley Forest Products is a vertically integrated Western Red Cedar manufacturer located in Smelterville, ID. With production of over 2 million board feet of cedar per month, the facility is equipped with two planer lines, four dry kilns, resaws, trim saws, and a packaging/barcoding station, operated by long-term management and staff.
With decades of experience producing high-quality cedar lumber, our operations focus on consistency, efficiency, and strong collaboration between mill and office teams.
With that in mind, we are currently seeking a General Laborer to support daily production operations.
Position Overview
The General Laborer performs manual tasks in a wood products facility, focusing on processing, sorting, stacking, and packaging cedar lumber. Key duties include feeding machinery, grading, handling material, maintaining cleanliness, and ensuring safety compliance in a fast-paced environment. Physical stamina is essential.
The work schedule will consist of four, 10-hr shifts per week, Monday - Thursday, 6:30 am to 5:00 pm, with occasional paid overtime.
Key Responsibilities
- Material Handling: Manually lift on occasion 50 - 100 lbs, move, stack, and sort cedar boards, often requiring significant physical strength.
- Production Support: Feed, off-bear, or assist with machine operation (e.g., planers, saws, sanders).
- Packaging & Sorting: Sort lumber by grade, size, or quality and package finished products for shipment.
- Cleanup & Maintenance: Clean debris and sawdust from machines and work areas to maintain a safe environment.
- Safety Compliance: Adhere to all safety guidelines, including wearing protective equipment (PPE).
Requirements
- Physical Stamina: Ability to stand for long periods and lift heavy objects regularly.
- Reliability: Strong work ethic and punctuality.
- Adaptability: Willingness to learn multiple tasks and follow instructions.
- Experience: Previous experience in lumber mills, manufacturing, or general labor is preferred but not required.
Working Conditions
- Environment may be loud and dusty, often requiring, proper headgear, earplugs, gloves, and safety glasses that are provided by Silver Valley Forest Products. Proper clothing and boots are highly recommended.
