What are the responsibilities and job description for the Mobile Home Sales Director position at Silver Lands Management Group?
Company Overview
Silver Lands Management Group is dedicated to transforming the rental experience and helping every tenant feel valued and at home.
Job Summary
As Mobile Home Sales Director, you’ll lead sales strategy and business development, build strong customer and business relationships, and guide a team toward sales goals. Your impact: By aligning sales efforts with customer needs, you help buyers make informed decisions and support a positive sales experience.
About the role
We are building a program that turns renters into homeowners, and we are looking for the person to run it.
Across our manufactured housing communities, thousands of families rent homes we own. Many of them have rented for a decade or more. We finance home purchases in-house, which means we can offer those residents a path to owning the home they already live in — and because we carry the paper ourselves, we only succeed when they succeed.
The Director of Home Sales owns that program portfolio-wide: the team that runs it, the process they follow, and the results it produces. This is a build-and-scale role with an existing framework to work from, not a blank page and not a maintenance job.
You will report to the Chief Sales Officer.
What you'll own
The team. Hiring, onboarding, certifying, and coaching regional sales managers and on-site home sales representatives across the portfolio. You set the bar for who gets hired and who stays.
The system. A documented sales process — pipeline stages, activity standards, follow-up cadence, scripts, objection handling, and a certification path every rep clears before working solo. You make it consistent from community to community.
The numbers. Conversion from renter to owner, and the performance of the loans your team originates. Both. More on that below.
The line between sales and lending. Our sales representatives do not quote rates, terms, or payments, and do not tell residents whether they will qualify — that work belongs to a separate licensed finance team. Holding that line across a growing organization is a core part of this job, not a footnote.
What you'll do
Build and lead the team
- Recruit, hire, and onboard regional managers and home sales representatives as the program scales
- Run a certification program every rep completes before working with residents unsupervised
- Coach in the field — ride-alongs, live role-play, call and conversation reviews, not just dashboard reviews
- Manage performance honestly: develop the people who can do this well, and move quickly on the ones who can't
Run the sales system
- Own the pipeline: every eligible resident tracked by stage, with a defined contact cadence and no one falling through the cracks
- Set and enforce daily and weekly activity standards, and hold managers accountable to them
- Maintain the script library, objection handbook, and sales collateral; update them from what actually works in the field
- Standardize the process across communities while leaving room for local differences in market and demographics
Protect the program
- Keep sales and lending functionally separated, and train every rep on where that line sits
- Partner with the licensed finance team on clean handoffs, document collection, and adverse action handling
- Own compliance training and recertification — fair housing, ECOA, contact and consent rules, advertising standards
- Escalate and investigate anything that looks like pressure selling, steering, or a resident being sold something they can't carry
Report up
- Report portfolio results to the Chief Sales Officer: conversion, pipeline health, team performance, and loan performance
- Flag what the numbers are actually telling you, including when the answer is that a community or a rep isn't working
- Partner with property management, operations, and finance on inventory, pricing, and turn timelines
What we're looking for
Required
- 5 years leading a sales team, including at least 2 years leading managers rather than individual contributors
- Experience running a multi-site or distributed team — you've managed people you don't see every day
- A track record of building a repeatable sales process, not just personally hitting a number
- Real coaching ability: hiring, training, and developing salespeople is the majority of this job
- Comfort operating in a compliance-heavy sales environment, or clear evidence you learn regulatory detail quickly and take it seriously
- Fluency with pipeline metrics and CRM discipline — you manage from data, and you make your team log it
- Willingness to travel regularly across the portfolio
- Valid driver's license
Strongly preferred
- Manufactured housing experience — community operations, home sales, or retail
- Background in consumer finance, auto or RV sales, or multifamily leasing, where credit and affordability are part of the conversation
- Familiarity with chattel or in-house financing and how it differs from a traditional mortgage
- Working knowledge of SAFE Act licensing boundaries, TCPA contact rules, ECOA, and fair housing
- Bilingual English/Spanish, or experience building bilingual sales programs
- Experience standing up a training or certification program from scratch
How you'll be measured — and who this is not for
We will hold you to conversion volume. We will also hold you to how those loans perform twelve and twenty-four months later, and a portion of the bonus is structured accordingly.
That is deliberate. We finance these homes ourselves, so a resident sold a home they can't carry doesn't produce revenue — it produces a repossession, a vacant home, a family worse off than before, and a reputation problem in a community where everyone talks. Our reps are trained to walk away from a deal that doesn't hold up, and they are never penalized for a walk-away they can explain.
This role is not a fit if you want a pure volume seat, if you've built your career on pressure closing, or if "underwrite the worst month, not the best one" sounds like an excuse for a weak quarter. It is a strong fit if you've ever had to tell a salesperson that a deal they wanted was the wrong deal, and you'd do it again.
