Responsibilities
- Assist clients with Activities of Daily Living (ADLs) such as bathing, dressing, grooming, toileting, and mobility support.
- Monitor patients’ health by taking vital signs like blood pressure, pulse, temperature, and respiration; report any irregularities to healthcare professionals promptly.
- Support medication administration following care plans and HIPAA regulations to ensure confidentiality and safety.
- Prepare nutritious meals tailored to individual dietary requirements and assist with feeding when necessary.
- Maintain a clean and safe environment by performing light housekeeping tasks including cleaning patient areas, laundry, and organizing personal belongings.
- Observe and document patients’ conditions, behaviors, and progress; communicate updates clearly to nursing staff or supervisors.
- Use specialized equipment such as Hoyer lifts or resident lifts safely to assist with transfers, ensuring patient safety at all times.
- Engage clients in social activities or recreational programs to promote mental stimulation and emotional well-being.
- Follow all safety protocols including CPR and First Aid procedures; respond effectively in emergency situations or incidents.
- Collaborate with healthcare teams to develop and implement personalized care plans that reflect each individual’s needs and goals.
- Support clients in community outings or appointments to foster independence and social engagement.
Skills
- Proven experience in home health care, assisted living, nursing homes, or group homes; experience with dementia, Alzheimer’s disease, autism spectrum disorder (ASD), or developmental disabilities is highly valued.
- Strong knowledge of patient observation techniques and monitoring vital signs accurately.
- Ability to perform heavy lifting safely using proper techniques; familiarity with assistive devices like Hoyer lifts is preferred.
- Excellent communication skills for effective interaction with clients, families, and healthcare professionals.
- Knowledge of HIPAA regulations to ensure client confidentiality at all times.
- Skilled in meal preparation that adheres to special dietary needs; experience in cleaning and maintaining hygiene standards.
- Ability to work independently as well as part of a team in fast-paced environments requiring attention to detail.
- Certifications such as CPR, First Aid, and any relevant state-specific caregiving licenses are advantageous.
