POSITION TITLE: Football – Varsity Head Coach
QUALIFICATIONS: Appropriate certification through the Arkansas Department of
Education and Arkansas Activities Association/NFHS Coaches
Education Program; Successful experience as a varsity head coach
or coordinator is desired
REPORTS TO: Building Level Principal and Athletic Director
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: 240 days; salary and benefits according to Siloam Springs School Board policies.
ESSENTIAL TEACHING FUNCTIONS
- Participate in curriculum review and design.
- Implement a variety of effective instructional strategies consistent with lesson objectives.
- Diagnose and evaluate student abilities and progress in a timely and consistent manner.
- Monitor student progress and adjust instruction accordingly.
- Create a program that meets the individual needs, interests, and abilities of the students.
- Create a environment that is conducive to learning.
- Effectively implement district initiatives.
- Effectively collaborate with department and grade level teachers.
ESSENTIAL COACHING FUNCTIONS:
- Coordinate and evaluate all aspects of assigned program for grades 7-12.
- Create, model, and sustain a daily culture of winning focused on effort, attitude, preparation, sportsmanship, and academic excellence.
- Collaborate with Athletic Director to supervise and evaluate all assistant coaches in assigned program.
- Provide mentoring to assistant coaches for professional growth.
- Assist administration in recruiting and interviewing assistant coaches.
- Develop respect by modeling positive behaviors through appearance, manners, language, and conduct.
- Coordinate the instruction of all players in the program regarding the rules, safe use of equipment, and proper techniques to be used in the sport.
- Monitor the academic performance of team members.
- Maintain open and honest communication with students, parents, coaches, and administration.
- Support and collaborate with staff in other athletic and academic programs to encourage students to participate in a variety of activities.
- Coordinate with and promote community youth sports programs.
- Supervise and take responsibility for the behavior of all athletes in the program.
- Help plan and supervise any special needs/events (awards night, parent meeting, community service, etc.).
- Plan with administration for improvements in the program.
- Teach and model good sportsmanship toward opponents, officials, parents.
- Follow rules and regulations in the Siloam Springs Athletic Department, Coaches and AAA Handbooks.
- Organize practices and workouts to maximize talents of coaching staff and optimize student participation.
- Attend pre-season organizational meetings as assigned by the athletic director.
- Assist in organizing and running of invitational or AAA tournaments and regular season games/meets.
- Attend professional development activities and remain current to new coaching strategies.
- Follow established procedures for the proper care, maintenance, and requisitioning of equipment, supplies, and uniforms.
- Cooperate with athletic trainers to ensure safety for all athletes.
- Attend all interscholastic contests for assigned team (if an emergency or situation arises that would necessitate the absence of a coach, the athletic director must be notified as soon as the situation is known).
- Become an integral part of and develop rapport with the Siloam Springs community, including students, parents, staff, and supporters.
OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Abide by state statutes, school board policies and regulations.
- Attend meetings and performs duties as assigned by administrators or supervisors.
- Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
- Maintain accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law, district policy and administrative regulation.
- Serve on committees as assigned.
- Remain current on instructional practices in education and coaching.
- Other duties as assigned.
