What are the responsibilities and job description for the Operations and business development manager position at Sikking Electric?
About the Company
We are a small, established electrical contracting business operating primarily through word-of-mouth and repeat clients. The owner holds the electrical license and runs field operations. We are not trying to become a massive company — the goal is steady, profitable growth with clean operations and consistent work.
We are looking for one key person to help bring in more work and manage it from start to finish.
About the Role
This is not a passive office role.
This position exists to:
- Bring work into the company
- Estimate and price jobs
- Manage active projects
- Scale labor only when workload requires
If work is not coming in, there is nothing to manage — so this role is structured with performance-based compensation tied directly to results.
Responsibilities
- Generate new electrical work through GC outreach, bid lists, follow-ups, and relationships
- Get the company on bid lists and maintain GC/client relationships
- Review plans and perform estimating for small to mid-size projects
- Manage active projects (scheduling, materials, coordination)
- Serve as the main point of contact with GCs and clients
- Coordinate hiring of additional labor when workload increases
- Track projects from bid → award → completion → billing
- Help build simple, practical systems as the company grows
Requirements
- Construction or electrical industry experience required
- Background as a project manager, estimator, operations manager, or similar
- Understanding of how electrical work is awarded and priced
- Comfortable making calls, following up, and closing work
- Able to manage multiple small jobs at once
- Self-directed and organized
- Entrepreneurial mindset — thinks like an owner, not just an employee
What This Role Is NOT
- Not a marketing-only position
- Not a social media or SEO role
- Not a corporate admin position
- Not a field electrician role
This is a hands-on operations business development role.
Compensation
- Base salary: Enough to live on (based on experience)
- Profit-sharing bonuses: Percentage of gross profit on jobs you help bring in and manage
- Bonuses are directly tied to work generated and successfully executed
- Clear path to increased compensation as revenue grows
- Long-term opportunity for the right person to become a key leader in the business
You bring work in → you make more money.
Schedule
- Fractional / part-time to start
- Grows into full-time as workload increases
- Flexible schedule focused on results, not punching a clock
