What are the responsibilities and job description for the Controller, Private Equity position at Signature Analytics?

Must be willing to travel and attend conferences to meet with referral partners, prospects, and clients nationally. 

At Signature Analytics, we specialize in providing expert-level fractional accounting and business advisory solutions to small and middle-market businesses ($5-100M in revenue) across the United States. We accomplish this by managing an organization’s accounting functions and financial reporting, so they don't have to. From there, we go beyond the numbers to help improve performance and achieve business goals by focusing on forward-looking activities, direction, and strategy.

Our service offering to Private Equity Groups is as follows:

  • Build and scale the finance and accounting teams of PE holdings
  • Develop and produce regular, accurate, and timely reporting
  • Support CFOs of investment companies so they can focus more on strategic decision-making

Successful candidates will play a key role in supporting private equity funds, funds of funds, and General Partners (GPs) to meet their fund controllership, investment books and records, regulatory, and financial statement reporting requirements.  The successful candidate will lead the improvement of service offerings at Signature Analytics for the PE vertical, assist in leading and training the operations teams, and assist our business development team in closing new deals.

We are a growing firm and currently looking for an experienced Controller to help lead our Private Equity Vertical with the following skills: 

  • Execution and Financial Acumen: Deep knowledge and experience with private equity and PE Fund-of-Fund investment operations and financial statement reporting.  The successful candidate is the technical expert at Signature Analytics for this vertical.
    • Ability to perform, train, and review critical accounting activities, including capital calls, valuations, and transaction processing.
    • Produce and review accurate, timely, and relevant work products for clients.  Drive defining new procedures and controls to reduce overall operational risk.
    • Ability to prepare and facilitate financial statement review/audit activities.
    • Drive the annual planning and budget processes.  Compare actual results with a view to identify, explain, and correct variances as appropriate.
    • Support the CFO in engaging executive leadership around issues and trends in financial operating models and delivery.
  • Communication: Effective communication is essential for conveying ideas, strategies, and findings clearly and concisely to potential and current clients, teams, and stakeholders. The successful candidate is responsible for keeping both internal and external parties informed about progress and expected outcomes.
  • Network: Open to growing (or already has) relationships with key decision-makers at PE funds. The successful candidate, along with our business development team, serves as a connector in this industry.
  • Trusted Partner: Develops mutual respect, accountability, and value creation in the relationship that leads to making an emotional connection. Not transactional.
  • Discipline: Effective in working in a remote/virtual setting, managing the details, and working on the daily tasks that lead to results.
  • Leadership: Guides and motivates team members, manages conflicts, and fosters a collaborative environment.

SUCCESS LOOKS LIKE:

  • Adapting quickly to new situations, prioritizing tasks, and effectively communicating in a fast-paced environment with leads, client meetings, internal meetings, and ongoing connectivity to all clients in the Private Equity Vertical.  Follow-up is critical.
  • Collaborating with operations team members and sales professionals to deliver solutions to clients.
  • Key contributor to building our PE practice nationally.  You have developed key relationships and positioned SA to be successful in this vertical market.
  • Participating in the operational leadership team providing value beyond your vertical expertise to support the overall growth of SA.
  • Being regarded by your colleagues as a “go to” resource within SA and are sought out for your expertise and advice.
  • Demonstrating adaptability, curiosity, and a detail-oriented approach.

QUALIFICATIONS, EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE:

  • Minimum of 7-10 years of accounting experience focused on mergers and acquisitions experience with increasing responsibility.
  • Bachelor’s Degree with emphasis in Finance, Accounting, Statistics, Mathematics, or Economics from an accredited college or university.
  • CFA, CPA, and/or MBA or Masters in Finance preferred.
  • Proficiency in G-Suite, Zoom, Microsoft Office Suite, and other accounting enablement tools required (ERP systems and accounting systems).
  • Strong PowerPoint skills

A reasonable estimate of the salary range for this role is up to $130,000 to $180,000 annually with bonus potential depending on experience. To provide a competitive compensation package, Signature Analytics takes into account a variety of factors including but not limited to: market compensation data, relevant experience, skills, education, and certifications. A sign-on bonus may be provided as part of the compensation package, in addition to benefits (employer contribution towards medical, dental, and vision premiums; 401(k) match; professional development reimbursements; cell phone and home office stipend, etc.) depending on the position offered.
