3. SUMMARY
The Medical Assistant (MA) performs clinical and administrative duties under the supervision of licensed healthcare professionals to support the efficient operation of a rural health clinic. The MA assists providers and nurses with patient care, documentation, and coordination of services, ensuring high-quality and compassionate care to patients across all ages and backgrounds in compliance with rules and regulations of all applicable federal, state and local laws as well as PMHC policies is a condition of employment.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Incumbent must have the skills, ability and judgment to perform the following essential job duties and responsibilities with or without reasonable accommodation:
1. Patient CareGreet and prepare patients for examinations, procedures, or treatments.
Obtain and document vital signs, height, weight, and patient history in the electronic medical record (EMR).
Assist providers with examinations and minor procedures.
Perform basic wound care (cleansing, dressing changes) as delegated by a nurse or provider.
Administer medications and immunizations as delegated and allowed by state law and clinic policy once trained and competent.
Monitor and report any changes in patient condition to the supervising nurse or provider.
Collect specimens, and conduct point-of-care testing as ordered.
Provide patient education and instruction as directed by the provider or nurse.
Report any abnormal findings or changes in patient condition promptly to the supervising provider or nurse.
2. Clinical SupportPrepare and maintain exam rooms, ensuring cleanliness, orderliness, and adequate stock of supplies.
Clean instruments and equipment according to infection control standards.
Operate and maintain medical equipment used in patient care.
Assist with documentation, referrals, and follow-up scheduling as directed.
Support care coordination and communication between patients, providers, and nursing staff.
Assist and perform EKG's, ear lavages, injections under the direction of a nurse or provider.
3. Administrative and CommunicationAnswer phones, schedule appointments, verify insurance, monitor fax queue, and fax documents under the direction of a nurse or provider.
Maintain accurate and timely patient documentation in the EMR.
Participate in staff meetings, in-service training, and quality improvement activities.
Ensure patient confidentiality and compliance with HIPAA regulations.
4. Emergency and Safety ResponsibilitiesRecognize and respond to emergency situations (e.g., patient distress, falls, or injury) per clinic protocol.
Follow all infection control, safety, and hazardous material procedures.

REQUIRED EDUCATION
1. Completion of an approved nursing assistant course.
2. Completion of Nebraska Medication Aide course and exam.
COMPETENCIES/CERTIFICATIONS REQUIRED
1. Currently holds a Nebraska license as a Certified Nursing Assistant.
2. Currently holds a Nebraska Medication Aide Certification.
4. Current BLS certification must be obtained within 60 days from their date of hire..
1 Year of clinical experience required.
