What are the responsibilities and job description for the Head of Marketing position at Sigma Squared?
Overview
Sigma Squared is hiring a Head of Marketing to serve as the first full-time member of our marketing organization. You will own the full marketing stack from day one: product marketing, demand generation, branding, PLG & ABM, analytics, and content. You’ll set the strategic direction and personally execute across every channel while building a world-class team around you as we scale. Looking for someone equally comfortable presenting market positioning to the executive team as they are spending an afternoon in HubSpot tuning a nurture sequence.
Key Responsibilities
Go-to-Market Strategy & Positioning
Own and continuously refine the company’s go-to-market strategy, ensuring marketing directly accelerates pipeline and revenue.
Define Sigma Squared’s category position and craft differentiated messaging that sets us apart in a competitive market.
Research, build, and iterate on the Ideal Customer Profile (ICP); identifying the buyers, segments, and use cases where we consistently win.
Serve as a strategic partner to the executive team and, as the company matures, to the board on market positioning, competitive intelligence, and product roadmap input.
Work hand-in-hand with Sales, Product, and Customer Success to align messaging, close feedback loops, and support the full customer journey from awareness through expansion.
Demand Generation & Pipeline Building
Build and execute a multi-channel demand generation program (email, paid search, paid social, content, webinars, events) designed to consistently hit MQL, SQL, and marketing-generated pipeline targets across SMB, mid-market, and enterprise segments.
Design and run structured A/B testing across ad formats, audience targeting, landing pages, email subject lines, body copy, and CTAs.
Own LinkedIn and other paid social campaigns with a relentless focus on cost efficiency; manage suppression lists, target account lists, and audience segmentation on an ongoing basis.
Build out HubSpot workflows, lead scoring, nurture sequences, and CRM hygiene practices to ensure clean attribution and reliable reporting from day one.
Track and report on marketing’s contribution to pipeline.
Product-Led Growth (PLG) & Account-Based Marketing (ABM)
Run both PLG and ABM motions simultaneously—acquiring and converting self-serve users while orchestrating targeted, high-touch plays for enterprise accounts.
Build low-cost, high-converting campaign programs that drive product adoption and surface expansion opportunities within the existing customer base.
Collaborate with Product and Customer Success on in-product messaging, onboarding flows, and activation metrics that reduce time-to-value.
Develop and maintain target account lists and tiered ABM programs that align marketing investment with the highest-value opportunities in the pipeline.
Brand, Messaging & Content
Own Sigma Squared’s brand voice, visual identity guidelines, and messaging architecture across every external touchpoint.
Write and edit high-quality content; blog posts, case studies, email & social campaigns, sales collateral, website copy, etc.
Manage the website as a conversion asset: messaging, SEO, CRO, and landing page performance are all within your remit.
Develop sales enablement materials (decks, one-pagers, email templates, etc.) that help the sales team tell a compelling, consistent story.
Marketing Operations & Analytics
Serve as the primary owner of the marketing tech stack; evaluate, implement, and optimize tools with a focus on performance and scalability.
Build and maintain analytics dashboards that give leadership clear, real-time visibility into marketing performance and spend efficiency.
Manage the marketing budget with a performance-first mindset, making data-driven decisions about where to allocate and where to cut.
Lead or inform platform migrations when the existing stack isn’t serving the business (e.g., evaluating a move from legacy tools to HubSpot Marketing Hub and CMS).
Team Building & Leadership
Operate as a solo marketing leader initially, with the authority and mandate to hire thoughtfully as pipeline and revenue justify headcount.
Define the structure of the marketing function you want to build, and recruit accordingly.
Manage agency relationships, freelancers, and contractors to extend execution capacity in the short term.
Model a high-performance, data-driven marketing culture from the start.
Qualifications
7 years of B2B marketing experience, preferably in SaaS but broader tech domain experience is welcomed.
A genuine builder mentality, having either been the first marketer before or excited about working in a lean, high-ownership environment.
Developed brand positioning and messaging in a competitive or emerging category, comfortable with market education.
Conducted ICP research from scratch: customer interviews, firmographic analysis, win/loss reviews, and translating findings into actionable targeting.
Driven measurable cost-per-MQL reduction through disciplined A/B testing via LinkedIn, paid search, email, etc.
Launched or scaled a product-led growth motion via low-touch, self-serve acquisition with measurable activation and conversion metrics.
Implemented and owned martech stack and automation tools; CRM, workflows, lead scoring, sequences, attribution, and reporting.
Built marketing dashboards using BI tools (Looker, Tableau, etc.), SQL, or Python that track pipeline contribution, channel efficiency, and MQL quality.
Written marketing copy for long-form content, email, social, website, sales enablement, etc.
