About the Position
We are looking for an experienced Skilled Carpenter / Renovation Technician to complete renovation, repair, and deferred-maintenance projects on residential and commercial properties in Salem and surrounding communities.
This position is geared toward someone with strong hands-on construction experience who can complete projects independently and produce quality finished work.
Projects will vary from property to property and may range from replacing flooring and finish carpentry to addressing larger lists of deferred maintenance and renovating portions of an existing property.
We are looking for someone who can be given a scope of work, determine what needs to be done, and move the project toward completion without constant supervision.
Typical Projects & Responsibilities
- Install LVP, LVT, laminate, and other flooring
- Prepare and repair subfloors
- Install cabinets and countertops
- Install and adjust interior and exterior doors
- Install baseboard, casing, trim, and other finish carpentry
- Complete framing and general carpentry repairs
- Repair and replace siding and exterior building components
- Install or replace windows
- Drywall installation, patching, and repair
- Interior and exterior painting and preparation
- Repair damaged or deteriorated building components
- Address deferred maintenance and property-condition issues
- Complete light-to-moderate renovation projects
- Demolition and preparation for renovation work
- Identify problems and recommend practical repair solutions
- Coordinate your work with other trades when necessary
- Maintain a clean and safe jobsite
- Other construction and renovation duties as assigned
What We're Looking For
This is not an entry-level construction position.
The ideal candidate has experience across multiple aspects of residential remodeling and carpentry and is comfortable completing projects independently.
You do not need to be a master of every trade, but you should have strong skills in several of the following:
Flooring | Finish Carpentry | Cabinets | Doors | Trim | Drywall | Painting | Siding | Windows | General Remodeling
We especially value someone who can walk into an existing property, identify what needs attention, and find practical ways to repair and improve it.
Qualifications
- Several years of construction, carpentry, or remodeling experience preferred
- Strong knowledge of common construction methods and materials
- Skilled with hand and power tools
- Ability to measure, cut, fit, and install materials accurately
- Ability to troubleshoot existing construction and repair problems
- Ability to work efficiently with limited supervision
- Attention to detail and pride in finished workmanship
- Reliable attendance and good time management
- Ability to work independently and as part of a crew
- Ability to work indoors and outdoors in varying conditions
- Ability to perform physical construction work and lift approximately 40 pounds
Requirements
- Valid driver's license
- Reliable transportation
- Ability to travel between jobsites in Salem and surrounding communities
- Ability to pass required drug screening
- Dependable and punctual
Compensation & Growth
$25–$40/hour depending on experience, skill level, and ability to independently complete projects.
The upper end of the compensation range is intended for candidates who can take ownership of projects, solve problems in the field, and consistently deliver quality finished work with minimal supervision.
A 90-day performance review will be completed to evaluate performance, compensation, and opportunities for additional responsibility.
