Here is how you would contribute to Sierra's team:

The Safety Manager is responsible for developing, implementing, and overseeing the company’s safety and health programs across all commercial construction projects. This role ensures compliance with federal, state, and local regulations, as well as company policies, with the goal of maintaining a safe workplace for employees, subcontractors, and the public. The Safety Manager will act as a key leader in promoting a proactive, positive safety culture across the organization.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

Program Development & Compliance

  • Develop, implement, and maintain the company’s safety policies, procedures, forms and site-specific safety plans
  • Ensure compliance with OSHA, state, and local regulations, as well as company safety standards both in Washington and Oregon
  • Monitor industry best practices and update programs and Sierra’s Accident Prevention Program as needed
  • Review OSHA 300 annually for compliance
  • Assist marketing department with third party reviewer compliance (for example, Avetta)

Training & Education

  • Prepare and conduct quarterly Safety Meetings
  • Provide employee safety orientations, toolbox talks, and specialized training sessions as needed
  • Develop training materials and assist in maintaining records of all safety-related training
  • Educate Sierra personnel in the use of current site safety audit software
  • Maintain current site safety audit templates for job site use
  • Coach and mentor employees and subcontractors on safe work practices
  • Monitor employee training expiration dates and assist in facilitating classes as needed
  • Prepare and send weekly safety text messages to the field

Field Oversight & Inspections

  • Conduct regular, bi-monthly job site safety inspections, audits, and hazard assessments in both Washington and Oregon
  • Identify unsafe conditions, recommend corrective actions, and verify completion
  • Partner with project teams and Superintendents to ensure safe work planning and execution
  • Review and disseminate inspection reports submitted by our third-party safety partners to the job sites and project files
  • Review weekly safety audits conducted by Superintendents
  • Update third-party safety audit schedules as required

Incident Management & Reporting

  • Lead investigations of accidents, near misses, and safety violations
  • Prepare required reports, root cause analyses, and recommend corrective/preventive measures
  • Track safety metrics
  • Assist in Crisis Management protocol in coordination with Director of Field Operations

Collaboration & Leadership

  • Work closely with project management, field operations, and subcontractors to ensure safety is integrated into all aspects of construction both in Washington and Oregon
  • Attend the in-house projection meetings
  • Facilitate preconstruction and project-specific safety planning meetings
  • Represent the company during regulatory inspections and audits

Continuous Improvement

  • Analyze safety performance data to identify trends and recommend improvements
  • Promote a culture of accountability and continuous improvement in safety performance
  • Act as a resource for employees at all levels to foster a safe and healthy work environment

What we would like to see from you:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Safety & Health, Construction Management, Engineering, or related field preferred; equivalent experience may be considered
  • 5 years of safety management experience in commercial construction, with large general contractor experience strongly preferred
  • In-depth knowledge of DOSH and/or OSHA construction standards
  • Knowledge of fall protection and crane related standards
  • Maintain an approved driving record and valid driver’s license

Certifications

  • OSHA 30-Hour Construction Certification (required) that has been updated in the last 3 years
  • First Aid/CPR certification (required)
  • CHST, CSP, or equivalent professional safety certification (preferred)

Skills & Competencies

  • Strong knowledge of construction means, methods, and equipment
  • Excellent communication and leadership skills with the ability to influence at all levels
  • Strong organizational, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities
  • Proficiency with safety management software and MS Office Suite
  • Ability to work independently and travel to multiple project sites as needed

Physical Demands and Work Environment:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, talk or hear. The employee is required to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, or crouch. The employee must be able to lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, peripheral vision, and ability to adjust focus. The noise level in the work environment may range from quiet to moderate.

The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. The job environment will include an office setting as well as construction sites.

Benefits Sierra currently offers:

Sierra offers a total compensation package that includes base salary, discretionary bonus potential and a benefits package that includes health benefits (Medical and Dental), paid time off, retirement benefits (Employer Profit Sharing and 401(k) Plan with discretionary match), Long Term Disability Insurance, Life Insurance and an EAP. Other available benefits include Voluntary Term Life Insurance, Health Savings Account, Healthcare Pre-Tax Spending Plan, and Pre-Paid Legal Services. The full salary range for this position is $100,000-$140,000. We are committed to do our best to supply a suitable pay range for this job. We will work hard to assess the proper fit for you within Sierra’s company structure after assessing your experience, training, and qualifications.
