Role Description
The Director of Payroll is responsible for providing strategic leadership and operational oversight of the University's payroll function to ensure accurate, timely, and compliant processing of all employee compensation. This role develops and implements payroll policies, procedures, and systems; they will drive process improvements, leverage technology for efficiency, and ensure a high level of confidentiality and compliance in all payroll activities. The Director of Payroll, along with the Assistant Director of Payroll, will serve as a key liaison on payroll-related matters, ensuring adherence to federal, state, and local laws, and partners with HR, Finance, and other University departments to deliver exceptional service and maintain data integrity. The Director will also be responsible for the daily oversight of the Payroll Office including the supervision of the Assistant Director of Payroll.
Requirements:
- At least 5 years progressively responsible experience in a payroll processing function
- Bachelors' Degree or commensurate experience
- Demonstrated knowledge of federal, state, and local wage/hour laws, tax regulations, garnishment rules, and reporting requirements
- Expertise in HRIS/payroll platforms
- Experience analyzing payroll data for trends, errors, and compliance risks
- Proficiency in Excel and reporting tools
- Demonstrated leadership, analytical and problem-solving skills and a process improvement mindset
