Description
The Transportation Driver is responsible for transporting and operating fire apparatus both in state and out of state for relocation purposes.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Drive apparatus, load and unload unit on and off trailer
- Relocate apparatus across state lines
- Implement a trip plan to account for rest and fuel stops
- Perform 360-walkaround and verify the condition of the apparatus is free of any defects, secure any loose items/tools and notify supervisors of damages before moving the vehicle; walkaround includes required DOT inspections pre- and post-trip for all units and trailers
- Follow factory demo unit procedures including required paperwork
- Follow all traffic laws, DOT regulations, and company policies and procedures
- Pickup and deliver materials to and from vendors
- Operate electronic logs
Qualifications
The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required:
- Possess a valid class A or B (non-exempt) commercial driver license; and must have a valid DOT medical card
- Possess air brake, tank, and trailer endorsements (trailer - Class A only)
- BE at least 21 years of age
- Clean driving record
- Available to work within 48 hours of driver notification
- Available for overnight stays if required by Company or DOT regulations
- Able to operate a forklift
- Good interpersonal skills, including the ability to quickly build rapport with customers and employees
- Self-Motivated
- Track record of demonstrating Integrity and Dependability
Education and/or Experience
- High School Diploma or GED required
- Expected to be professional and demonstrate proficiency when requested
Physical Demands
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit for several hours. Use their hands to handle, control, or feel objects, tools, or controls. The employee must have clear vision, at least 20/40 with or without glasses/contacts, your eyes can see side-to-side normally, and you can recognize the colors on traffic signs and signals. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
