Summary
This position is responsible for creating and maintaining schematics, 3-dimensional virtual component models, assemblies, and manufacturing documentation under the guidance of Product Engineers and/or Poly personnel. Responsibilities include producing models and drawings for the Sales Team to support customer presentations, as well as generating manufacturing drawings for assembly, fabrication, and off-site vendors.
Experience with 3D scanning tools and workflows is highly preferred, and familiarity with CNC operations is considered a strong plus.
Duties and Responsibilities (Not all-inclusive; additional duties may be assigned)
- Collaborate with the Poly team and Sales team to design and develop products or product families.
- Assist Sales with arrangement drawings and model visuals for customer presentations.
- Utilize 3D scanning tools (handheld scanners, LiDAR, structured-light systems, etc.) to capture, clean, and convert physical components or vehicle interiors into usable CAD models.
- Integrate scanned data into SolidWorks models and assemblies as part of the design process.
- Work with Production and CNC operators to ensure designs are manufacturing-ready and optimized for CNC routing, machining, laser cutting, or fabrication processes.
- Cooperate with Production to resolve design and quality issues.
- Self-check all work to ensure accuracy, proper organization, adherence to dimensioning and tolerancing standards, and conformance with established CAD specifications.
- Work with external suppliers, vendors, and off-site fabricators to resolve technical issues and ensure manufacturability.
Qualifications
- Proficiency in Computer Aided Engineering (CAE).
- Experience with 3D scanning hardware and software (e.g., 3D handheld scanners, scan alignment tools, mesh cleanup, reverse-engineering workflows).
- Experience or familiarity with CNC operations, programming, or design-for-manufacturing (DFM) in CNC environments.
- Knowledge of welding procedures, sheet metal, and poly fabrication.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, especially Word and Excel.
- Ability to communicate technical information clearly (verbally and in writing).
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Willingness to learn and participate in Lean Manufacturing methodologies.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and represent the company professionally with customers and team members.
- Ability to travel for business 5–10% of the time.
- Ability to create BOMS and conduct basic cost analysis.
Education and/or Experience
- Drafting, Design, Engineering, or Manufacturing: 2 years minimum
- SolidWorks, Fusion360 (or comparable CAD software): 2 years minimum
- Experience with 3D scanning or CNC equipment is a strong plus.
Physical Demands
