Shriners Children's Texas is where hope and healing meet. As one of only four pediatric burn specialty hospitals in the Shriners Children's health system, we are designated by the American Burn Association (ABA) and the American College of Surgeons Committee on Trauma as a verified pediatric burn center. Located on Galveston Island, our 30-bed inpatient hospital provides a full line of both inpatient and outpatient care specializing in burn care, orthopedic conditions, complex skin conditions, and plastic and reconstructive surgery. Our services extend to a number outreach clinics in San Angelo & Marshall, Texas, and Monterrey, San Luis Potosi, Guadalajara, Veracruz, Toluca & Chihuahua Mexico and Panama, which provide children and families access to high-quality, specialized burn and orthopedic care.

The Occupational Therapist provides evaluation and therapy services, including direct patient care, patient/family education and transition of care, in an efficient, age-appropriate, and culturally sensitive manner upon licensed independent practitioner referral. In this position, you will have the unique opportunity to help our patients through their journey from the moment the child is brought through the door through the time the child leaves to go home.   • The Occupational Therapist position provides evaluation and therapy services, including direct patient care, patient/family education and transition of care, in an efficient, age-appropriate, and culturally sensitive manner upon licensed independent practitioner referral.
  • Provides comprehensive compliant and safe clinical care demonstrating the philosophy of family centered care, a commitment to the achievement of optimal patient outcomes in alignment with the standards of practice of their professional organization.
  • Works with medical staff and the multidisciplinary team to design and implement individualized plans of care to meet the needs of the pediatric patients and their family.
  • Functions as a team member and develops leadership skills through activities such as mentoring, and providing education to students and other professionals.
  • Supports the ongoing development and improvement of the department through participation in special projects, performance improvement and facility committees.
  • Responsible for professional growth and development through ongoing education and research in alignment with hospital’s patient care and strategic direction.
  • Responsible for maintaining current knowledge in changes related to scope of practice, coding/billing practices, compliant documentation and any other knowledge related to the compliant practice in a revenue cycle environment.
  • In cooperation with other local leaders, offers exceptional care following the Shriners Hospitals for Children® FOCUSED©™ Program, a system-wide model for professional practice that stresses and emphasizes patient-centered care, or always putting the needs of the patients (and their families first).

Required

  • Bachelors degree in Occupational Therapy.
  • OT licensed in state of practice
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification


Preferred

  • 1 year occupational therapy experience; new graduates considered
  • Pediatric experience
