Design Assistant

SUMMARY:

This role will utilize their strong acumen for fashion to assist in the process of creating elevated products with the direction of the Design Director. They will collaborate with different departments to help with managing the development of the collection from initial concept to production. This is a permanent full time position for a candidate who is passionate and eager to learn about the contemporary womenswear market. This position will also utilize their organizational skills to work independently to accomplish company goals.  Must be within reasonable commuting distance of the Mumu HQ in Downtown LA. This role’s schedule is hybrid and works in an open office a minimum of 3 days per week.

CORE DUTIES:

• Support the overall design team with development of all seasonal collections
• Responsible for setting up seasonal color code requests and building style logic for every collection
• Assign style numbers to all new developments
• Translate all finalized styles and info to Company Master Line sheet
• Work with design team to pull pantone selections and set up seasonal color palettes for all categories
• Assist with maintaining design area boards with mood/color images, updated sketches, and fabric swatches if available
• Support with preparation for meetings by helping to gather all necessary information and materials
• Assist maintaining well organized seasonal binders (with fabric headers/lab dips/print strike offs/etc.) and sample racks as a trusted design reference for each collection to ensure development efficiency and traceability
• Assist with building and maintaining physical and virtual libraries of core fabrics and yarns
• Assist in setting up swatch and print packages for send out as needed for new developments
• Supports design team with creating CADs as needed
• Assist with development of cut up, fast track, and wholesale exclusive styles
• Responsible for sample purchasing/returning and tracking
• Maintain overall organization and cleanliness of Design area, including design samples sample racks in storage area
• Other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Proficiency in sketching/CAD creation using Adobe Illustrator (proficiency using Procreate a plus)
• Strong eye for trend and color
• Ability to learn the brand DNA and support in the design process
• Strong ability to clearly communicate silhouettes and detailed garment construction through tech pack creation and CADS
• Strong knowledge of design details, fabric, interior construction, and fit terminology
• Flexible and adaptable in a very fast-paced environment
• Ability to effectively multitask and change direction as needed, to work/think independently as well as part of a team
• Candidate must be highly organized with excellent follow through, attention to detail, time management skills and the ability to prioritize with a sense of urgency
• Self-motivated and proactive with a positive and dependable attitude
• Ability to complete daily tasks while working from home
• Flexibility with regards to job responsibilities

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

• 0-3 years fashion design experience in the women’s RTW contemporary market
• Bachelor’s or Associate’s degree in Fashion Design preferred or related fields
• Experienced in collaborating cross-functionally with Product Development and Technical Design teams throughout the design process is a plus
• Knowledge and experience in communicating with overseas vendors/factories is a plus
• Knowledgeable and proficient in MS Office applications including Word and Excel
• Knowledgeable and proficient in Adobe applications - Photoshop & Illustrator
• Knowledgeable and proficient in Google suite software programs (ie. Gmail, Google Docs, etc.)

COMPENSATION:

$26-$30 Per Hour (DOE) Depending on Experience
