Position Summary:
The District Fleet Technician is responsible for maintaining, repairing, and complying with the district's fleet of non-bus vehicles. This role includes conducting routine inspections, performing minor repairs, tracking vehicle usage, and ensuring compliance with all safety and operational regulations. The Fleet Technician also works closely with vendors, maintains inventory, and assists with general maintenance tasks as needed.
Key Responsibilities:
Fleet Maintenance & Repairs:
- Perform routine inspections, preventative maintenance, and minor repairs on district vehicles.
- Coordinate with external vendors for specialized repairs and services.
- Ensure all district vehicles meet cleanliness and safety standards.
- Maintain compliance with district, state, and federal vehicle regulations.
Parts & Inventory Management:
- Track and maintain an inventory of vehicle parts, tools, and supplies.
- Assist in ordering and stocking necessary components for maintenance and repairs.
- Work with vendors to ensure timely delivery of parts and services.
Compliance & Documentation:
- Maintain accurate records of vehicle inspections, maintenance, and repair history.
- Track vehicle assignments, mileage logs, and fuel usage.
- Ensure compliance with safety regulations and district policies related to fleet operations.
General Maintenance Support:
- Assist with minor facility maintenance and repairs as needed.
- Respond to fleet-related emergencies, including vehicle recovery or replacements.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Transportation Supervisor.
Required Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in automotive maintenance, fleet operations, or a related field.
- Knowledge of vehicle maintenance schedules, repair procedures, and fleet operations.
- Strong organizational, problem-solving, and record-keeping skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Automotive maintenance certification or related technical training.
- Experience with fleet management software.
- First Aid/CPR certification and OSHA safety training.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, and kneel for extended periods.
- Ability to work in various environmental conditions, including exposure to noise, dust, and varying temperatures.
Working Conditions:
- Work is performed in a transportation maintenance facility with exposure to mechanical equipment and outdoor elements.
- May require occasional travel between district sites to perform inspections or maintenance.
