Role Description The Sports Information Graduate Assistant is a part-time, on-site role located in Rome, GA, supporting the daily operations of the Sports Information office for Shorter University Athletics. This position assists with the creation and maintenance of athletics content, including game recaps, player and team profiles, press releases, and social media updates. The role helps manage statistics, update the athletics website, and coordinate game-day operations such as scorekeeping, live stats, and media support. The graduate assistant collaborates with coaches, staff, and external media to ensure accurate and timely communication of athletic achievements and events, while upholding the university’s mission and values.
Qualifications
- Strong written communication skills, including sports writing, editing, and ability to produce clear and engaging content for multiple platforms.
- Experience with basic digital media tools, such as content management systems, social media platforms, and standard office software (e.g., Word, Excel).
- Ability to manage statistics, maintain accurate records, and handle game-day operations such as scorekeeping and live stat entry.
- Organizational and time-management skills, with the capacity to handle multiple assignments, meet deadlines, and work evenings and weekends as needed.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to collaborate with coaches, student-athletes, staff, and media representatives in a professional manner.
- Enrollment or eligibility for enrollment in a Shorter University graduate program, with an interest in sports information, communications, or a related field.
- Understanding of and willingness to support Shorter University’s Christ-centered mission and values.
- Prior experience in athletics communication, sports media, or related student work is preferred but not required.
