Cost Accountant

Shoreline Fruit is the largest tart cherry producer in North America operating over 6000 acres of cherry orchards in Michigan, growing and processing over 50 million pounds of cherries each year. POSITION SUMMARY:

Manage and oversee the production accounting functions at the Williamsburg and Empire production facilities.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

• Prepare all production entries, post into the production log, and post into the accounting system in a timely manner.
• Analyze results of production reports for reasonableness and work with plant personnel to understand and report on unreasonable cost and yield variances in production.
• During the summer harvest, duties will be expanded to work with staff to develop, implement and monitor various accounting policies and procedures related to receiving fruit and the related production.
• Work with outside auditors as required.
• Maintain the records storage program for financial records utilizing electronic formats whenever possible.
• Collaborate with managers at the plant locations to develop reports and provide regular updates for tracking expenses and budgeting.
• File any other outside reports or special tasks as needed and requested by the Controller.
• Maintain absolute confidentiality regarding business information.

COMPETENCIES AND SKILLS REQUIRED

• Bachelors degree in Accounting, Finance or related field plus 2 years of experience in manufacturing environment
• Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, Adobe, and SAGE 100 accounting software.
• Proficient in the use of equipment typical of an office environment (computers, fax machines, copiers, printers, etc.)
• Good communications and writing skills.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

• This position will spend most of the time in an office environment.
• Certain activities will entail working in production and storage facilities.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

• This is primarily a sedentary job other than possible walking tours of the facilities.
• May be requested to lift materials of up to 35 lbs.
• Specific vision abilities required include reading computer screen and written documents; close vision, color vision, and ability to adjust focus.
• Communicate effectively via verbal, audible, and written means.
