The Parent Child Center (PCC) is the home of Shoreline's youngest learners. The PCC is a licensed childcare facility and early-learning lab located on the campus of Shoreline Community College. We participate in Washington State's Early Achievers program and serve Shoreline Community College students, employees and community members.
Under the direct supervision of the Early Childhood Program Specialist 4, this position serves as an Assistant Teacher and performs entry level early childhood classroom duties. This is a great opportunity if you are interested in entering the early childhood development field.

These positions are part-time. As an hourly position, there is no predictability or guarantee of the number of hours/days that may be scheduled. Hourly employees maintain an “at-will” employment relationship meaning that either you or the College may terminate the employment relationship at any time, for any reason. Hiring of this position is contingent on available funding as determined by the College President.
If your hours total more than 350 in any 12-month period, your position will be represented by the Washington Federation of State Employees Union.
Position is limited to 1 year or 1,050 hours, whichever comes first. Per State of Washington rules, you may reach these limits only once at Shoreline CC. If you have held another part-time hourly position at Shoreline Community College since July 1, 2022, additional time and hours limits will apply, so you may not be eligible for hire in this position.

Primary responsibilities include the following:
- Preparing and organizing materials used by children for projects
- Monitoring activities such as lunch and nap
- Maintaining a healthy and safe environment
- Keeping accurate daily records
- Assessing the needs of children 0-5 years old
- Serving/cleaning up snacks and meals
- Performing other duties of a similar nature and level as assigned
Required Education & Experience:
- High school diploma OR equivalent education
Licensing Requirements:
- Early Childhood Education (12 credits) or ability to obtain within 12 months of hire
- Current CPR and First Aid training OR the ability to obtain within 30 days of employment
- Completion of the Washington State Training and Registration Systems (STARS) Basic training OR the ability to obtain within 30 days of employment (training assistance available through campus)
- Current Food Handlers permit OR the ability to obtain within 30 days of employment
- Current TB test (must have negative test prior to employment)
- Current portable background check
- Blood borne pathogen training OR the ability to obtain within 30 days of employment
Skill In/Knowledge Of:
- Best practices in age-appropriate activities and discipline for early childhood age groups
- Public health sanitation standards related to diapering, napping, and feeding activities
- Fostering a climate of equity and belonging through multicultural awareness and responsiveness
- Communicating effectively with a culturally diverse audience
- Maintaining confidentiality and professional/ethical boundaries with families and staff members
- Working independently and as part of a team
- Maintaining a healthy, safe and welcoming environment both inside and outside of the classroom
- Ability to meet the physical demands of the position's duties including, but not limited to, sitting/standing for prolonged periods of time at a desk/computer workstation and using repetitive arm, hand and finger movements.
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs frequently; ability to push multi-child strollers with up to a 300 lb capacity
- Ability to sit on the floor, move quickly around the classroom, squat, sit on small chairs, and return to standing frequently
- Ability to work both inside and outside of the classroom with exposure to a variety of weather conditions and noise level
- Ability to read printed materials and a computer screen

Please Note:
- A collective bargaining agreement exists and membership in the Washington State Federation of Employees (WFSE) or payment of a service fee may be required dependent upon total number of hours.
- Other conditions that may apply will be detailed upon offer of employment.
- This position is overtime eligible.
