Position Summary

The Senior Family Office Accountant will support the accounting, financial reporting, trust, partnership, investment, and administrative functions for the family office and its related private entities. This role reports to the Equity Controller and is responsible for maintaining accurate, timely, organized, and highly confidential accounting records for family-owned entities, trusts, partnerships, investment vehicles, real estate holdings, personal assets, and other related interests.

This position requires strong technical accounting skills, sound judgment, discretion, and the ability to manage detailed accounting workflows in a complex, multi-entity family office environment. The Senior Family Office Accountant will work closely with the Equity Controller, corporate accounting, legal, tax, investment, and external advisory teams to ensure that financial activity is properly recorded, reconciled, supported, and available for management reporting, tax planning, estate planning, audit support, and internal review purposes.

The role is hands-on and detail-oriented, with responsibility for maintaining general ledgers, supporting schedules, ownership records, capital account activity, intercompany activity, accounts payable records, cash-flow reports, and documentation related to loans, advances, promissory notes, contributions, distributions where applicable, and other entity-level or fiduciary activity.

Key Responsibilities

Accounting and Financial Reporting

  • Perform and support day-to-day accounting for family-owned entities, trusts, partnerships, private investment vehicles, real estate holdings, and other related entities.
  • Maintain accurate general ledgers, transaction coding, supporting schedules, account reconciliations, ownership records, capital account activity, and intercompany balances.
  • Prepare monthly and quarterly reporting support, including cash-flow reports, budget-to-actual summaries, management schedules, and other financial analyses requested by the Equity Controller or management.
  • Support quarter-end and year-end close processes, including journal entries, bank reconciliations, account reconciliations, intercompany documentation, and review of entity-level activity.
  • Ensure financial records are organized, complete, accurate, and properly supported for tax, audit, estate planning, and internal review purposes.

Trust, Partnership, and Private Entity Accounting

  • Support accounting for family trusts, partnerships, private investment entities, and other family-owned structures.
  • Track and maintain records for capital contributions, capital account activity, ownership changes, loans, advances, promissory notes, distributions where applicable, and other fiduciary or entity-level activity.
  • Prepare and maintain detailed supporting documentation for fiduciary, partnership, ownership, and investment-related transactions.
  • Assist with schedules and summaries needed by tax advisors, legal counsel, estate planning advisors, and internal management.
  • Monitor transactions for proper classification, support, and consistency with accounting records and underlying documentation.

Treasury, Cash Flow, and Accounts Payable

  • Process or oversee accounts payable, private bill payments, recurring obligations, expense tracking, reimbursements, and cash-flow positioning for assigned family office entities and related accounts.
  • Prepare cash-flow reports and assist with forecasting liquidity needs for private entities, trusts, partnerships, and personal or family accounts.
  • Maintain appropriate documentation for payments, transfers, reimbursements, intercompany activity, and related approvals.
  • Coordinate with banks, advisors, internal personnel, and external parties as needed to ensure accurate and timely processing of financial transactions.

Tax, Audit, Legal, and Estate Planning Support

  • Coordinate with external tax professionals, estate planning advisors, legal counsel, and other advisors regarding entity records, schedules, workpapers, and supporting documentation.
  • Prepare accurate schedules, reconciliations, and workpapers for tax filings, trusts, partnerships, foundations, estate planning, and other family office matters.
  • Maintain organized and complete documentation for family entities, personal assets, investment activity, legal support, and other financial records.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, Finance, or related field required.
  • CPA highly preferred 
  • Five or more years of progressive accounting experience preferred, including experience with family office, high-net-worth individuals, private investments, real estate, trusts, partnerships, or closely held entities.
  • Strong understanding of multi-entity accounting, general ledger accounting, reconciliations, month-end close, partnership accounting, capital accounts, intercompany activity, and supporting schedules.
  • Experience with trust, estate, tax, investment, private entity, or fiduciary accounting preferred.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and strong working knowledge of accounting systems and financial reporting tools required.
  • Yardi experience preferred;
  • Strong analytical, organizational, problem-solving, documentation, and communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines, maintain confidentiality, and work accurately in a highly detailed and sensitive environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to exercise sound judgment, discretion, and professionalism when handling confidential financial and family office matters.
