Creative Retail Shop Assistant

Job description

I run a small, hands-on retail shop focused on high end, personalized gifts (primarily laser engraving, hot foil stamping, and embroidery). I’m looking for someone part-time who can help with both day-to-day shop tasks and take real ownership of the personalization side of the business.

This is not just a “retail helper” role. I’m looking for someone creative, detail-oriented, and excited about making things.

What you’ll be doing:

• Assisting with opening/closing and general shop operations
• Running and learning laser engraving (xTool) and foil stamping processes
• Personalizing products for customers (names, dates, custom designs, etc.)
• Helping refine and improve workflows for consistency and quality
• Working directly with me to build out and evolve the personalization program

What I’m looking for:

• Someone “crafty” and hands-on (maker mindset is a big plus)
• Strong attention to detail and patience for precision work
• Interest in learning (and eventually mastering) engraving stamping
• Comfortable figuring things out and improving processes over time
• Able to communicate clearly and explain your thinking (I want to learn too)
• Reliable, responsible, and takes ownership—not just waiting for instructions

Bonus if you have experience with:

• Laser engraving (any machine), CNC, or similar tools
• Printmaking, bookbinding, leatherwork, jewelry, or custom goods
• Working in small production environments or maker spaces

Details:

• Part-time hourly
• Flexible schedule to start; will include regular shop hours
