This role requires a blend of product expertise, people skills, and professionalism. Budtenders are the face of Shipwreck’d — expected to provide friendly, informed service that reflects our commitment to quality, trust, and community.
Responsibilities
- Greet customers warmly and provide them with an engaging shopping experience.
- Assist customers in selecting cannabis products based on their preferences and needs.
- Communicate product knowledge effectively, including strain types, effects, and usage methods.
- Handle cash register transactions accurately and efficiently.
- Maintain an organized and stocked display of products to ensure availability for customers.
- to educate customers about various cannabis items.
- Supervise the sales floor during shifts to ensure compliance with store policies and procedures.
- Keep up-to-date with industry trends, new products, and regulations related to cannabis sales.
- Maintain a strong working knowledge of the current product menu, including strain types, consumption methods, and effects.
- Stay up to date on inventory, especially fast-selling items, to avoid over-promising availability.
- Proactively use Dutchie POS and back-office tools to reference product details and apply applicable demographic discounts (e.g., veterans, seniors).
- Offer thoughtful product suggestions based on customer preferences, budget, and desired experience.
Cannabis Knowledge & Education
- Complete Seed Talent’s Terpene 101 and 102 modules as part of onboarding and continued development.
- Stay informed on all brand training modules related to products currently offered at Shipwreck’d.
- Be prepared to explain terpene profiles, THC/CBD levels, and intended effects in an easy-to-understand way for consumers of all experience levels.
Customer Service Standards
- Provide warm, genuine service without being pushy or dismissive.
- Treat all customers with respect — especially those shopping on a budget.
- Ensure customers never feel pressured to overspend or rushed in making their decisions.
- Maintain a clean, presentable personal appearance and be mindful of hygiene at all times.
Qualifications
- Must be at least 21 years of age.
- Previous experience in cannabis retail sales environment is preferred.
- Previous hospitality experience required.
- Basic math skills for handling transactions and inventory management.
- Strong communication skills to interact effectively with customers and team members.
