Position Description:
As the Executive Director of Shippensburg Produce and Outreach (SPO) food pantry, you are responsible for achieving SPO’s mission daily by executing sustainability plan tasks; advising on and executing SPO Board strategic objectives; ensuring the safety and welfare of SPO volunteers; representing SPO throughout the community and with our partners and donors. You will work closely with the Board of Directors and lead and manage an all-volunteer staff. This is an exciting opportunity for a high-energy and emotionally intelligent leader, who thrives in a dynamic and mission-driven environment. While preferred, aspiring applicants do not need work experience with non-profit organizations nor with charitable food organizations.
The ideal candidate is someone comfortable working both independently and collaboratively. You will have the autonomy to innovate and implement new programs, while also ensuring that operations run smoothly and efficiently. You must be adaptable, strategic, and comfortable navigating the complexities of leading a nonprofit organization with volunteer-driven operations.
Key Responsibilities:
Leadership & Strategic Planning:
- Provide direction to ensure alignment with SPO’s mission, vision, and core values.
- Develop and implement short- and long-term strategic plans for growth and sustainability.
- Lead the organization in executing initiatives that meet the needs of our community.
- Inspire and motivate volunteers, building a collaborative and supportive environment.
Board Relations & Governance:
- Work closely with SPO’s Board of Directors to develop policies, set priorities, and ensure the organization meets its goals and objectives.
- Keep the Board informed about organizational progress, challenges, opportunities, and advise on strategic decision-making.
Program Development & Implementation:
- Oversee the day-to-day operations of the pantry, ensuring the efficient delivery of services to our clients.
- Develop, implement, and evaluate programs to expand the pantry’s services and community outreach.
- Foster relationships with local organizations, donors, and stakeholders to support the pantry’s mission and secure funding.
Financial & Administrative Management:
- Manage the pantry’s budget to ensure financial health and accountability.
- Work closely with volunteers to coordinate the pantry’s logistics, including inventory management, procurement, and distribution.
- Lead fundraising efforts, including grant writing, donor relations, and community partnerships.
Team Building & Volunteer Management:
- Lead, mentor, and support the pantry’s volunteer staff and interns.
- Develop training and development programs to enhance volunteer engagement and performance.
Community Engagement
- Serve as SPO’s outward facing representative during community events, donor interaction, and meetings with local officials.
Education & Experience
• Bachelor’s degree in business administration preferred or relevant work experience in private sector, non-profit, or government employment.
• Three to five years of management experience required with one year in a leadership position preferred.
• Previous volunteer experience with any charitable organization is required.
Qualifications:
• Proven experience with strategic planning, program development and implementation, and financial oversight.
• Strong emotional intelligence with the ability to work effectively with diverse groups of people, including volunteers, donors, government officials, and Board members.
• Demonstrated ability to work independently, be self-motivated, and manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment.
• High level of innovation and creativity with a strong problem-solving mindset.
• Excellent communication skills (written and verbal) and proficiency with Google Workspace and Microsoft Office.
• Proven experience in community outreach with a focus on fundraising.
• Strong organizational and time-management skills with the ability to work remotely and in-office.
• Passion for hunger relief and community empowerment.
• Current driver's license and reliable transportation.
