Shippensburg Community Coordinator (Part-Time)
The Shippensburg Community Coordinator serves as a connector, communicator, and catalyst for community and economic revitalization. Working collaboratively with the Shippensburg Area Chamber of Commerce, Downtown Organizations Investing Together (DOIT), the Borough of Shippensburg, and other partners, the Coordinator promotes downtown vibrancy, supports local businesses, and facilitates projects that enhance the appearance and vitality of Shippensburg.
This role is ideal for someone who loves building relationships, organizing community projects, and bringing energy to Shippensburg’s downtown.
The Coordinator will help implement priority actions identified in the Derck-Edson Implementation Plan, particularly in areas of organization, promotion, and design.
Key Responsibilities
Community Coordination and Communication
- Serve as the primary liaison among businesses, community organizations, and local government partners.
- Maintain regular contact with business owners through meetings, newsletters, and email updates.
- Support volunteer and committee efforts to advance downtown revitalization goals.
- Coordinate community outreach and engagement related to downtown projects, events, and opportunities.
Project and Program Support
- Facilitate implementation of priority projects such as façade improvements, beautification, and business outreach campaigns.
- Track progress on initiatives and report outcomes.
- Coordinate committee meetings, prepare agendas, and follow up on assigned tasks.
- Support the administration of small community and state grants
Marketing and Promotions
- Coordinate joint marketing and promotional efforts with local merchants.
- Assist with planning and promotion of community events that drive downtown activity.
- Maintain digital communication channels, including social media and website updates, to highlight local businesses and community successes.
Administrative and Partnership Support
- Collaborate with the Chamber to manage communications, scheduling, and recordkeeping related to community development efforts.
- Maintain a database of local businesses, available properties, and volunteer contacts.
- Support tracking and reporting for grant and sponsorship funding.
Qualifications and Skills
- Excellent communication and relationship-building skills.
- Strong organizational abilities with attention to detail.
- Experience in marketing, community development, or event coordination preferred.
- Ability to work independently and manage a flexible schedule (some evening/weekend hours as needed).
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Canva, social media platforms, and general office tools.
- Familiarity with community revitalization, economic development, or Main Street principles is a plus.
Education and Experience
- Associate or bachelor’s degree preferred in business, communications, marketing, or a related field.
- Prior experience in community engagement, event planning, nonprofit coordination, or marketing — or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Position Details

Summary
This part-time role represents a strategic phase in the continued implementation of Shippensburg’s community revitalization plan. The Coordinator will focus on strengthening communication, partnerships, and small-scale visible projects that build momentum toward a more vibrant downtown. As funding and project capacity grow, this position may expand into a full-time role.
