Hosts are responsible for welcoming guests and ensuring that they are seated and receive attentive service. Their duties include maintaining a waitlist of patrons during busy meal service, passing out menus, accepting phone calls, following established guidelines, procedures, and policies as prescribed by company standards.
The Food Runner plays a vital role in ensuring that each guest receives their food promptly, accurately, and beautifully presented. Working closely with servers and kitchen staff, the Food Runner bridges the gap between the kitchen and dining area, upholding our standards of Japanese hospitality (omotenashi) and attention to detail.
Job Description
Responsibilities & Duties
- The host's primary job function is to greet guests in a friendly, welcoming manner.
- Seat guests at an appropriate table while engaging in casual conversation, taking into account special needs (children, high chairs, and party size). Rotating of new tables for service staff is necessary for an equitable division of the day’s work
- Menu knowledge should be extensive. Awareness and ability to describe all food, drink, and special menu items
- Answering the phone within three rings. Taking a message for management, if appropriate
- Teamwork is essential to a smooth operating work environment. Assisting servers in maintaining sections throughout the shift
- Should possess the ability to multi-task and be aware of several tables progression through the dining experience
- Ability to lift boxes occasionally up to 25lbs. Standing on one’s feet in a fast paced environment for a period of approximately 4 hours or longer
When working as a food runner:
- Deliver food orders from the kitchen to guests quickly and accurately.
- Ensure all dishes are presented according to restaurant standards before leaving the kitchen.
- Communicate effectively with servers and kitchen staff to coordinate service.
- Assist in explaining dishes to guests when appropriate (knowledge of sushi, Japanese ingredients, and menu items is preferred).

Projected Total Compensation: $15.00 - $20.00 per hour
Expected hours: 20 – 40 per week
