What are the responsibilities and job description for the Ophthalmic Technician / Scribe position at Shiloh Eye Care?
Ophthalmic Technicians/Scribes are a part of the ophthalmic team that assists an ophthalmologist in the patient exam. Assist by performing clerical duties in a clinical setting, facilitate patient/physician interaction by allowing the physician more patient time without the worries of documentation stress.
Job Duties:
Chart in real-time while the provider examines and evaluates the patients' eyes.
Review past medical records while recording all consultations with the healthcare team
Documents all procedures and treatments performed by the doctor
Document and retrieve test results and perform other clerical duties as needed. Ophthalmic Assistant duties as assigned.
Responsibilities:
- Perform preliminary eye exams and tests on patients
- Assist ophthalmologists
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date medical records
- Handle patient scheduling and check-in/check-out processes
- Provide excellent customer service to patients
- Educate patients on proper eye care and contact lens usage
- Assist with medical coding and billing processes
- Collaborate with the front desk staff to ensure smooth operations
Requirements:
-Must type 40 WPM
-Bilingual- Required Spanish or Vietnamese
- Previous experience as an ophthalmology technician or in a similar role preferred
- Proficiency in using electronic medical record (EMR) systems
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy in maintaining records
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
- Ability to work well in a fast-paced environment
- Flexibility to work with patients of all ages
- Understanding of retail math for sales transactions
-Must be able to stand for extended periods
