What are the responsibilities and job description for the Implementation Manager position at Shields Group Search?
Implementation Manager | HVAC / Engineering Experience
Full-time onsite in NYC’s Flatiron District
Shields Group Search is partnering with a fast-growing construction technology startup that is transforming how commercial HVAC, electrical, and plumbing suppliers and subcontractors quote, manage, and scale their businesses.
This company is building an AI-native operating system for a $250B industry that is still largely underserved by modern software. Its first quoting product is already live, scaling quickly, and now processing 500 quotes per day. The business recently raised a $14M Series A from leading construction-tech investors and is entering its next phase of growth.
We are looking for an Implementation Manager with a real HVAC, MEP, construction, or engineering background. This person should be able to stand in front of a room of engineers, estimators, project managers, and operators, win their trust, and teach them how to use a new tool without losing the room.
This is an ideal opportunity for someone coming from the construction industry who wants to break into construction tech and help define the customer implementation motion at a high-growth startup.
Role Overview
As Implementation Manager, you will own client onboarding, training, early-stage adoption, and implementation success. You will work directly with Client Success, Product, Sales, Engineering, and the founding team to make sure customers are successfully launched, trained, supported, and positioned for long-term adoption.
You will be client-facing, hands-on, and highly cross-functional. You will run in-person onboardings, lead kickoff sessions, create implementation playbooks, troubleshoot adoption blockers, and bring direct customer feedback back to the product and leadership teams.
This is a full-time, onsite role in New York City’s Flatiron District, steps from Madison Square Park and Union Square. Travel may be up to 50%.
What You’ll Do
- Own in-person client onboardings, kickoff sessions, virtual demos, and hands-on trainings
- Stand up in front of groups of engineers, estimators, operators, and construction professionals and confidently train them on a new software platform
- Build repeatable implementation processes, playbooks, training materials, tracking systems, and success metrics
- Serve as the voice of the customer by gathering feedback during onsite implementations and sharing insights directly with the founding team
- Troubleshoot in real time to remove adoption blockers and keep implementations on track
- Collaborate with Founders, Sales, Product, Client Success, and Engineering to surface customer insights, champion the client perspective, and influence the product roadmap
- Maintain client management workflows inside CRM, ticketing, and messaging systems
- Support inbound customer questions through email, live messaging, video calls, and tickets, ensuring fast, accurate, and tactical responses
- Create and maintain internal and client-facing documentation, including workflows, FAQs, and best practices grounded in real construction and HVAC use cases
- Develop product demos, training materials, and short tutorials that make complex features easy to understand and adopt for both technical and non-technical users
- Help build the playbook that powers a best-in-class customer implementation and onboarding experience
What You Bring
- 2 years in a technical or operational role within the commercial HVAC, mechanical, MEP, or construction industry
- Minimum 2 years at an MEP engineering firm, contractor, manufacturer rep, or similar construction-related environment
- HVAC or engineering background is required
- Hands-on familiarity with estimating, takeoff, bid management, project management, MEP design, or related workflows
- Working knowledge of Bluebeam, OST, or other blueprint / construction PDF tools
- Strong presence and communication skills, with genuine comfort speaking in front of large groups
- Ability to simplify technical concepts for technical and non-technical audiences
- A coaching or training mindset, with the patience and clarity to help users adopt new tools
- Strong relationship management skills and a client-first approach
- Project management ability, including building processes from scratch and hitting deadlines
- Comfortable traveling frequently, up to 50% of each month
- Genuine interest in breaking into construction tech, not just finding any new job
- Hungry, loyal, and willing to go above and beyond in an early-stage, high-growth environment
Bonus Points
- Experience creating training content, including videos, documentation, workshops, tutorials, or enablement materials
- Proven track record leading in-person rollouts, customer trainings, or implementation sessions
- Experience working directly with estimators, engineers, subcontractors, suppliers, or construction operators
- Comfort operating in a startup or fast-moving environment
