Shields Group Search is partnered with a venture-backed, early-stage construction technology startup building the next-generation operating system for commercial HVAC suppliers and contractors.

In just five months, this team launched V1 of their first product and grew revenue 10x. Backed by top-tier institutional investors and leading HVAC industry angels, the company is now focused on refining the product and scaling aggressively through 2026.

They are hiring a Frontend Engineer to help build and scale a fast-growing, real-time collaboration platform powering the future of commercial construction workflows.

This is an ideal role for someone passionate about beautiful, high-performance user interfaces, modern frontend tooling, and growing quickly in a fast-paced startup environment.

Responsibilities

• Feature Development: Build and ship new features for the web application with a strong focus on UX and interface design
• Code Quality: Write clean, maintainable, well-tested code following best practices
• Collaboration: Work closely with other engineers to deliver seamless user experiences
• Performance: Optimize frontend performance to ensure speed and responsiveness
• Learning & Growth: Continuously improve your skills while helping raise the engineering bar across the team

What They’re Looking For

You’re excited about building modern web applications with React and TypeScript, care deeply about user experience, and take pride in clean, thoughtful code. You enjoy collaborating with strong engineers and want to make meaningful contributions while leveling up fast.

Required Qualifications

• 1–3 years of industry software development experience
• Strong proficiency in JavaScript / TypeScript and React
• Solid understanding of HTML, CSS, and modern CSS frameworks (Tailwind, styled-components, etc.)
• Experience with state management (Redux, Zustand, or similar)
• Familiarity with Git and collaborative development workflows
• Understanding of responsive design and cross-browser compatibility
• Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail
• Excellent communication and teamwork abilities

Nice to Have

• Experience with Next.js or other React frameworks
• Familiarity with real-time features (WebSockets, server-sent events)
• Experience with testing frameworks (Jest, React Testing Library, Cypress, Playwright)
• Understanding of accessibility (WCAG standards)
• Experience with performance optimization and profiling tools
• Familiarity with design systems and component libraries
• Production experience with TypeScript
• Open-source contributions
• Interest in UI/UX design principles
• Experience building collaborative or interactive visual tools

Compensation & Benefits

• Base Salary: $140K–$180K (dependent on experience)

Location

This is a full-time, onsite role in New York City’s Flatiron District, steps from Madison Square Park and Union Square. The team strongly values in-person collaboration, real-time problem-solving, and building a high-trust, high-output culture.
