System Navigator - Temporary Position

SHIELDS’ mission is to develop, deliver and evaluate culturally sensitive, comprehensive service models that empower and advocate for high-risk families in South Los Angeles.
We are seeking a temporary System Navigator to provide wraparound navigation services for CalCRG participants, supporting their economic, physical, and emotional well-being. This role involves connecting clients to resources and services, including physical and mental health care, substance use treatment, housing support, employment and education programs, cognitive behavioral interventions, legal services, and other supports based on individual needs. Responsibilities include processing referrals from community organizations, courts, and law enforcement agencies; participating in community and health fairs; assisting with benefits enrollment; and providing housing navigation and basic needs support. The System Navigator will coordinate services with partners, monitor client progress, maintain tracking systems for reporting outcomes, and stay informed about community resources and eligibility requirements to ensure timely access and long-term stability for participants.
Qualifications:The ideal candidate must have a High School Diploma or GED and be proficient in reading and writing in English. Candidates should have experience working with clients with histories of substance abuse, incarceration, mental illness, or homelessness, and be familiar with eligibility screening for entitlement programs such as DPSS, Vocational Rehab, and CalWORKs, as well as other compatible service systems like SSI. They must comply with agency policies, procedures, and HIPAA, and be comfortable working with diverse populations, including LGBTQIA individuals, formerly incarcerated clients, and those with co-occurring disorders. Strong verbal and written communication skills, computer proficiency, sound decision-making, adaptability, and commitment to team objectives are essential. Candidates must provide services within a culturally sensitive framework, maintain respect for clients and the community, and possess a current California driver’s license with car registration and car insurance.
