General Characteristics
Assists in the collection of survey data and the maintenance of the survey instrumentation.
Works with the Party Chief to execute the survey work.
May require work outside of normal business hours.
This is an outdoor job, which requires a good deal of walking in many weather conditions.

Receives instructions on specific assignment objectives, complex features and possible solutions.
Typical Duties & Responsibilities
Gathers field survey data through use of conventional and Global Positioning System (GPS) methods.
Sets up, adjusts, and operates surveying equipment, including electronic total station, data collector, and GPS equipment.
Measure distances, elevations, and angles; prepares field notes and drawings.
Performs field surveying for roadway, bridges, and flood control projects, including installing surveying construction stakes, tying out existing intersection ties and locating or establishing vertical and horizontal control, right of way, monuments corners, boundaries, and property lines.
Responsible for assigned surveying activities, including holding the prism pole for measurements.
Responsible for clearing the route of the survey.
Responsible for crew survey supplies.
Learn operation and care of various surveying instruments.
Learn basic principles of field surveying.
Education
High school diploma or GED
