Position Overview
The Safety Manager serves as the owner’s representative for day-to-day safety oversight across complex capital projects in life sciences, manufacturing, healthcare, and commercial environments. This role provides independent monitoring of contractor safety performance and ensures work is executed in alignment with owner expectations, regulatory requirements, and OSHA standards. The Safety Manager supports the protection of the owner’s interests by identifying field-level risks, reinforcing contractor accountability, conducting site observations and audits, supporting incident investigations, and working closely with project teams to maintain a safe, compliant, and proactively managed work environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct regular site observations and audits to identify risks, verify contractor compliance, and recommend corrective actions.
- Support incident, accident, and near-miss investigations, ensuring findings are documented and appropriate corrective and preventive measures are implemented by responsible parties.
- Maintain visibility into contractor safety documentation, including incident reports, inspections, and training records, to confirm alignment with project and regulatory requirements.
- Reinforce contractor-led safety training efforts by participating in toolbox talks, safety meetings, and project briefings to promote a consistent and proactive safety culture.
- Monitor field activities to ensure adherence to safety standards, including proper use of PPE and safe work practices, in alignment with Occupational Safety and Health Administration requirements.
- Collaborate with project teams, contractors, and stakeholders to address safety concerns and drive continuous improvement across the project.
- Track and communicate safety performance to the owner, providing insights and recommendations to strengthen overall project safety outcomes.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Occupational Safety, Environmental Health, or a related field.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in construction safety management or a similar role within commercial construction.
- In-depth knowledge of OSHA regulations, construction safety standards, and hazard mitigation practices.
- Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Experience leading safety programs and mentoring field personnel and subcontractors.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook) and safety management software.
- Ability to work collaboratively with project teams and clients.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to maintaining a safe work environment.
- Relevant certifications (e.g., OSHA 30, CSP, NEBOSH, or equivalent) preferred.
