Our client, a growing geotechnical engineering and consulting firm north of Boston, is hiring a Senior Engineer to serve as a technical lead on complex heavy civil, infrastructure, transportation, and marine construction projects.
The firm works directly with contractors, supporting their geotechnical and structural engineering, pile and shaft testing, and instrumentation and monitoring needs across the full life of a project. Design work spans temporary earth retaining structures, trestles and work platforms, deep and shallow foundations, marine structures, accelerated bridge construction, shoring, and demolition and erection plans.
This role sits at the intersection of engineering leadership and business impact. You will run design tasks, work directly with Principals, mentor junior engineers, and, if you have the appetite for it, take on project management and client development. It's a clear path toward greater ownership within the firm.
What You'll Do
- Lead design and analysis on a wide range of complex geotechnical and structural projects
- Prepare technical design submittals for clients and the Owner or Engineer of Record
- Review calculations, drawings, and submittals produced by staff engineers
- Mentor and develop junior engineers as the team grows
- Partner with Principals to keep multiple concurrent projects on time and on budget
- Handle project management tasks such as proposals, budgets, scopes, invoicing, contract reviews, and client communications
- Conduct periodic site visits and construction observations
- Represent the firm at conferences and industry events, and help grow existing and new client relationships
What You Bring
- 8 years of geotechnical and/or structural engineering experience (required)
- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering required; master's in Geotechnical or Structural Engineering preferred
- Strong command of geotechnical fundamentals, including soil mechanics, bearing capacity, settlement, slope stability, and lateral earth pressures
- Strong structural design background across steel, concrete, and timber, with working knowledge of state and federal codes for design loads and structural capacities
- Project management experience is a plus, not a requirement
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Valid driver's license and willingness to travel to project sites as needed
