Our client is seeking a detail-oriented General Grant Accountant to support the financial management of grants across the organization. This role is responsible for ensuring accurate accounting, compliance, reporting, and analysis of all grant activity. The ideal candidate has strong technical accounting skills, a proactive mindset, and the ability to collaborate effectively with both internal and external partners.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage the full grant accounting lifecycle, including setup, tracking, billing, and closeout.
- Prepare and maintain grant budgets, forecasts, and financial reports in accordance with funding agency requirements.
- Monitor grant expenditures to ensure compliance with grant terms, organizational policies, and applicable regulations (e.g., GAAP, federal/state guidelines).
- Prepare grant invoices, reimbursement requests, and supporting documentation.
- Reconcile grant activity monthly, ensuring accuracy across the general ledger, subledgers, and supporting schedules.
- Collaborate with program managers, leadership, and external funders to provide financial insights and resolve discrepancies.
- Assist with internal and external audit requests specific to grants.
- Participate in process improvements to enhance grant tracking, reporting, and compliance.
- Support additional accounting tasks as needed within the finance department.
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required.
- 2–4 years of accounting experience; prior grant accounting or nonprofit accounting required.
- Strong understanding of GAAP, grant compliance, and fund accounting.
- Proficiency with accounting software and Excel; experience with ERP systems is a plus.
- Exceptional attention to detail with strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Ability to manage multiple deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work cross-functionally.
Sherpa offers benefits to contract employees who meet the following criteria:
- Must be a full-time employee (30 weekly hours/ 130 hours per month) to be eligible
