At the Sheridan County YMCA, we’re more than a workplace—we’re a community dedicated to youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility. We’re looking for a caring, energetic Assistant Teacher to help create a safe, nurturing, and engaging environment for children and families.
What You’ll Do
As an Assistant Teacher, you’ll support the Childcare Director and classroom team by:
- Assisting in planning and leading fun, age-appropriate activities and lessons
- Creating a safe, positive, and inclusive environment for all children
- Supervising children and ensuring proper staff-to-child ratios
- Building strong, respectful relationships with children and parents
- Communicating effectively with families about their child’s development
- Maintaining accurate program records and documentation
- Supporting program events, family nights, and YMCA initiatives
- Ensuring safety through proper supervision, transportation practices, and adherence to policies
What We’re Looking For
- At least 18 years old
- Experience working with children in a developmental setting (preferred)
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and adapt in a fast-paced environment
- Strong problem-solving and communication skills
- Commitment to ongoing training and professional development
Required within 90 days of hire (and maintained):
- CPR, First Aid, and Child Abuse Prevention certifications
- Alarm/Emergency Procedures training
