This is a crucial component of the practice. Sheridan Community Hospital is seeking dependable and motivated individuals to join our team as Safety and Physical Plant Technicians. This hybrid position supports both Safety Operations and Facilities Management, ensuring the hospital remains safe, operational around the clock and clean. This role plays a vital part in promoting a secure environment for patients, visitors, and staff—especially during overnight and weekend hours as well as maintaining hospital infrastructure and supporting environmental services.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Safety
- Conduct hourly safety rounds inside and outside the hospital to identify and address safety concerns.
- Assist medical staff as needed to ensure a safe and calm environment for patients and employees.
- Provide de-escalation assistance and serve as an additional safety presence during third shift and weekend operations.
- Respond promptly to emergencies and support incident management procedures.
Facilities & Maintenance
- Perform assigned maintenance tasks such as painting, plumbing, minor electrical repairs, and fixture conversions (including LED upgrades).
- Complete assigned work orders and support ongoing facility improvement and sustainability initiatives.
- Perform scheduled daily, weekly, and monthly maintenance rounds as established by the Maintenance Supervisor.
Environmental Services
- Support hospital cleanliness and environmental standards through routine cleaning of assigned areas (administrative offices, clinics, or other designated zones).
- Conduct scheduled floor maintenance and assist with floor care equipment operation.
- Provide support to EVS staff during high-demand times or as directed.
- Other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
Education, Experience and Other Requirements:
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Experience in hospital safety/security and facility maintenance preferred.
- Must complete training for safety officer/de-escalation assistance.
- Basic knowledge of building systems (plumbing, electrical, HVAC) desirable.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple responsibilities.
- Strong communication, problem-solving, and customer service skills.
- Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs and perform physical tasks as required.
- Flexibility to work weekends, nights, and holidays as scheduled.
