What are the responsibilities and job description for the Los Angeles 2027 Summer Associate position at Sheppard?
Sheppard's 10-week Summer Associate Program provides students with a realistic view into what life is like as an associate at the firm. The program begins with a reception and immersive two-day Summer Associate Academy in Los Angeles for all Sheppard summer associates. The Academy provides summer associates with an introduction to the firm and workshops and trainings to help them settle in as law firm professionals, and opportunities to network with one another.
Throughout the summer, our summer associates will receive hands-on, substantive experience while working closely with partners and associates on meaningful client matters across a variety industries. They also have the opportunity to attend depositions and court appearances, participate in conference calls and negotiations, draft documents and sit in on meetings, as well as work on pro bono projects. To help you maximize your summer at the firm, each practice group has designated workplace coordinators dedicated to connecting you with a wide range of assignments and diverse projects with various attorneys.
Summer associates receive ample feedback through formal mid-summer and end-of-summer reviews, as well as informally from their supervising attorneys as they complete each assignment. Each summer associate has at least one partner and one associate attorney mentor who provides guidance and advice throughout the summer, and we plan a well-balanced calendar of social events that allow students to get to know our attorneys as well as their fellow summer classmates. Our program is thoughtfully crafted to encourage our summer associates to build meaningful, lasting relationships within the summer class, collaborate with attorneys throughout the firm and engage with colleagues across all of our offices. Together, these elements create a supportive and memorable foundation for our summer associates’ careers.
Hiring Criteria: A minimum GPA of 3.3 is required; a minimum of 3.4 is preferred. We seek individuals who bring a broad range of experiences – excellent academic record, a history of leadership roles, and professional achievements reflecting proof of initiative and the ability to handle responsibility. We are committed to recruiting students who will contribute to our firm culture positively, take initiative and pride in their work, demonstrate curiosity, resourcefulness, and a drive to shape their own path.
