Job Description- Shelter Support Staff
JOB TITLE: Shelter Support Staff
STATUS: Part Time Shifts; including weekends
SUPERVISOR: Program Manager
Job Summary:
Shelter support staff help us create a welcoming environment for people experiencing homelessness; a place where they can heal, find support and encouragement and begin to chart a path to a new life.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Provide oversight of the shelter facility and guests
- Develop rapport with guests and assist in meeting their needs
- Communicate program rules to guests and assure compliance
- Conduct guest screenings, intakes and discharges as needed
- Prepare documentation of shift activities, goods and services provided and in-kind donations received as per agency protocols
- Maintain oversight of shelter and guest supplies, including inventory, distribution and restocking
- Provide oversight and assist with meal preparation and clean-up
- Perform housekeeping each shift and other maintenance tasks as needed
- Role model positive, professional behavior including appearance and communication
- Conduct perimeter checks and room checks as required
- Maintain positive attitude and promote healthy living environment for guests
- Work with assigned room to ensure guests are keeping the space clean and tidy and are complying with shelter regulations, medications and appointments
- Perform after care duties for guests in assigned room for 6 months after discharge to include one phone call a month and document conversation
Minimum Qualifications:
- Minimum of High School Diploma or Equivalent
- One year or more of experience, paid or volunteer, working with the homeless population and/or other at-risk adult population or other human service field

The most important attribute of an SOS staff member is the ability to be present and help build relationships with people experiencing homelessness, people with trauma history and the team around them.

Physical Requirements:
- Must be able to climb stairs
- Must be able to squat, bend and do overhead reaching and lifting
- Ability to lift up to 30 pounds and complete light maintenance work
- Ability to stand for extended periods of time
