What are the responsibilities and job description for the Night Auditor position at Shell Lake Lodge?
We are looking for a trustworthy, welcoming, and detail-oriented Night Auditor to oversee our front desk and overnight operations. In this role, you will be the primary point of contact for guests during the overnight hours, handling late check-ins, early check-outs, and guest inquiries with a warm, helpful attitude.
Beyond guest services, you will be responsible for the "night audit"—reconciling the day’s financial transactions, running close-out reports, and preparing our property management system for the morning shift. If you are a reliable "night owl" who loves working independently and takes pride in keeping things organized and secure, we would love to meet you!
Key Responsibilities
- Guest Services & Front Desk:
- Greet, check in, and check out overnight guests.
- Answer the phone and handle late-night guest requests, inquiries, or complaints quickly and professionally.
- Maintain a welcoming, clean, and organized lobby area.
- Financial & Audit Duties:
- Run the end-of-day reports in the property management system.
- Reconcile daily credit card transactions, cash drawers, and room charges.
- Verify that all guest accounts are correct and resolve any billing discrepancies.
- Print and organize necessary reports for the morning management team.
- Safety & Security:
- Keep a watchful eye on the lobby, entrances, and common areas to ensure the property is secure overnight.
- Follow all security and emergency procedures to keep guests and yourself safe.
- Shift Handover:
- Prepare coffee or light breakfast setup (if applicable) for early-rising guests.
- Leave detailed shift notes and pass on any critical guest information to the morning crew.
Qualifications & Experience
- Experience: Previous hotel front desk, night audit, or general hospitality experience is a plus, but we are happy to train someone with strong customer service and basic computer skills.
- Skills:
- High level of reliability, punctuality, and trustworthiness (since you will often work independently).
- Comfort using computers and learning hotel property management software.
- Solid basic math and bookkeeping skills for handling transactions and balances.
- Strong communication and a calm, friendly demeanor when handling late-night guest needs.
- Schedule: Must be comfortable working overnight hours (typically 11:00 PM to 7:00 AM), including weekends and holidays as scheduled.
