Electrical Drafter

Overview: Shelby Electrical, a reputable and well-established licensed electrical contractor in Brooklyn, is seeking a motivated and organized individual to join our team as an Electrical Drafter. This is an exciting opportunity to work with a dynamic team, gain valuable experience, and contribute to the success of our projects.

Responsibilities

• Produce electrical shop drawings, coordination drawings, and as-built drawings from architect and engineer plans, field markups, and project manager direction
• Draft power, lighting, fire alarm, low-voltage, and riser diagrams using AutoCAD
• Prepare drawings and supporting documents for electrical plan review and permit filings with New York City agencies, including the DOB
• Coordinate with other trades' drawings to identify conflicts before they reach the field
• Track drawing revisions, maintain clean version control, and make sure the field is always working from current sets
• Draft panel schedules, load calculations support, and equipment layouts
• Help prepare RFIs and respond to design clarifications
• Update drawings quickly when field conditions or design changes require it

Requirements

• 2 years of electrical drafting experience, ideally with a contractor or engineering firm
• Proficiency in AutoCAD; Revit or other building information modeling (BIM) experience is a strong plus
• Working knowledge of the National Electrical Code (NEC) and common electrical symbols, conventions, and drawing standards
• Ability to read and interpret architectural, structural, and mechanical, electrical, and plumbing drawings
• Strong attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines at once
• Clear written and verbal communication

Preferred

• Familiarity with New York City filing requirements and electrical plan review process
• Experience with fire alarm or low-voltage drafting
• Familiarity with project documentation tools such as Bluebeam
