Minimum Qualifications
1. Four (4) years of experience in a lead or supervisory capacity within a jail, correctional facility, or criminal justice agency providing staff training, development, and/or policy and procedural oversight; AND
2. Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in criminal justice, psychology, sociology, or a closely related field; OR
3. An equivalent combination of education and/or experience.
3. PROOF OF EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND/OR EXPERIENCE IS REQUIRED.
Duties and Responsibilities
1. Directs employees to ensure all work activities adhere to prescribed timetables and maintain work schedules for staff to ensure appropriate coverage daily/nightly.
2. Oversees staff charged with the responsibility of interviewing, gathering background information, and criminal arrest histories on arrestees, making bail presentations to Judicial Commissioners and/or Judges, curfew calls, etc.
3. Ensures and maintains that appropriate staffing and equipment are available during each shift to adequately promotes the needs of all required duties.
4. Responsible for always ensuring staff compliance with caseload and/or workload management requirements and protocol.
5. Gathers and maintains performance data and statistics pertaining to the staff, unit, and agency.
6. Investigates and responds to complaints from internal and external customers.
7. Makes decisions on personnel actions such as discipline and promotions.
8. Plans and carries out the training and development of employees.
9. Actively participate in committees, working groups, and teams to promote the work of the department and develop liaisons and partnerships within the community.
10. Performs other related duties as required or directed.
KSAs
1. Knowledge of supervision and personnel management practices and techniques.
2. Knowledge of the activities supervised.
3. Ability to coordinate and direct the activities of assigned personnel in the unit.
4. Ability to prepare composite reports using both Word and Excel and make sound recommendations that are supported by data.
Special Requirements
1. Must be available for shift, weekend, and holiday work as required.
2. Must be able to work in a jail-secure environment.
3. Must be able to pass a criminal background check, including Special Deputy License, and obtain NCIC certification.
4. Must have access to an operable automobile and meet County requirements for automobile insurance upon date of employment.
