The Sheboygan County Sheriff's Office is seeking a detail-oriented, organized, and highly trustworthy Evidence Technician to manage the secure collection, storage, tracking, and disposition of physical and digital evidence. In this role, you'll be a vital part of the criminal justice process, ensuring evidence is preserved with the highest level of integrity from collection through final disposition.

As our Evidence Technician, you'll help ensure every piece of evidence is properly documented, securely stored, and legally managed.

Your work will include:

  • Receiving, documenting, cataloging, storing, and releasing property and evidence while maintaining an unbroken chain of custody
  • Managing digital evidence including body camera footage, squad video, photographs, and electronic media
  • Preparing evidence for submission to the Wisconsin State Crime Laboratory and other forensic facilities
  • Researching case dispositions and court orders to determine when evidence can be returned, destroyed, auctioned, or otherwise disposed of
  • Coordinating evidence requests with investigators, prosecutors, courts, attorneys, and other authorized agencies
  • Managing firearms associated with injunctions and domestic violence orders in compliance with state and federal law
  • Safely handling narcotics, biological evidence, hazardous materials, prescription medications, and other sensitive evidence
  • Conducting annual evidence inventories and audits to ensure complete accountability
  • Managing evidence-related equipment, supplies, and budget needs
  • Providing fingerprinting services and assisting with department photography when needed
  • Supporting investigations by assisting with evidence collection, packaging, and transportation
  • Testifying in court regarding evidence handling procedures and chain of custody

Every day brings new challenges—and every detail matters.

  • Associate's degree in Law Enforcement, Logistics, or a related field (Evidence Management training preferred)
  • Two (2) years of experience in evidence/property management, records management, law enforcement support services, or a related field (or an equivalent combination of education and experience)
  • Certification as a Property & Evidence Specialist is preferred but not required
  • Valid Wisconsin Driver's License
  • Ability to successfully pass the Sheriff's Office background investigation
This position works primarily within secure Sheriff's Office facilities, evidence storage areas, and office environments, with occasional travel to courts, crime laboratories, impound facilities, and investigative scenes. The role includes handling firearms, narcotics, biological evidence, hazardous materials, and other sensitive property while following strict safety protocols and chain-of-custody requirements.

Salary : $26 - $30
