We are currently seeking to fill a full-time Fitter position at our Romeo facility on 1st shift. The Fitter is responsible for laying out, fitting, assembling, and preparing precision components and structures for welding and final fabrication.
General Description
- Read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, CAD models, specifications, and work instructions.
- Perform layout, fitting, and assembly of components used in checking fixtures, tooling, and fabricated structures.
- Position, align, clamp, and secure components to meet drawing requirements, dimensional tolerances, and quality standards.
- Prepare parts for welding by cleaning, grinding, beveling, cutting, drilling, and verifying fit-up requirements.
- Use hand tools, power tools, lifting equipment, and fabrication equipment safely and efficiently.
- Verify dimensions, locations, alignment, and tolerances using precision measuring instruments.
- Collaborate with engineers, machinists, and other team members to troubleshoot and resolve fabrication challenges.
- Ensure all work meets company quality standards, customer requirements, and applicable industry regulations.
- Learn how to maintain continuity among work shifts by documenting and communication of actions, irregularities, and continuing needs.
- All other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Proven experience as a fitter, fabricator, or tool builder in a manufacturing, tooling, automotive, aerospace, or defense environment.
- Strong ability to read and work from complex blueprints, engineering drawings, schematics, and dimensional specifications.
- Experience with layout, fitting, assembly, and fabrication of precision components.
- Ability to use precision measuring equipment, including tape measures, calipers, micrometers, height gauges, squares, levels, and other inspection tools.
- Knowledge of fabrication practices, material handling, alignment methods, and fit-up techniques.
- Ability to perform tack welding or obtain welding qualifications as needed.
- Strong mechanical aptitude, attention to detail, and commitment to high-quality workmanship.
- Strong problem-solving skills and a team-oriented mindset.
- Ability to navigate CATIA software is a plus.
Education and Experience
- High school diploma or equivalent combination of education and relevant work experience sufficient to successfully perform job expectations.
- 5 years of fitting, fabrication, tooling, manufacturing, automotive, aerospace, or related experience preferred.
- This position must meet Export Control compliance requirements; therefore, it is required that the candidate must be a “US Person” as defined by 22.C.F.R. §.
