Role Description The Staff Accountant is a full-time, on-site role based at Sharon Regional Health System in Sharon, PA. This position is responsible for performing general accounting functions, including preparing journal entries, maintaining and reconciling general ledger accounts, and assisting with month-end and year-end closing activities. The Staff Accountant will help prepare financial statements and reports, support budgeting and forecasting processes, and ensure compliance with internal controls and applicable accounting standards. Daily tasks also include analyzing variances, supporting audits by providing documentation and explanations, and collaborating with departments across the hospital to ensure accurate financial data and reporting. The role contributes to maintaining the financial integrity of the health system and supporting effective decision-making.
Qualifications
- Strong knowledge of general accounting principles, including journal entries, general ledger maintenance, account reconciliation, and financial statement preparation.
- Proficiency with accounting software and ERP systems, as well as intermediate skills in Microsoft Excel (e.g., formulas, pivot tables, data analysis).
- Demonstrated analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret financial data, identify variances, and provide clear explanations and recommendations.
- High attention to detail and accuracy, with strong organizational and time-management skills to manage multiple deadlines in a healthcare environment.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to collaborate professionally with clinical, administrative, and finance teams.
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; CPA candidacy or certification is a plus.
- Experience in healthcare, hospital, or nonprofit accounting is preferred, including familiarity with regulatory and reimbursement considerations.
