What are the responsibilities and job description for the Kids Kamp Counselor position at SHADES MOUNTAIN BAPTIST CHURCH?
Overview: Kids Kamp aims to create opportunities throughout the summer for campers and their families to see, know, and follow Jesus. Camp each summer is full of joy, full of truth, and full of growth! As a counselor, you will get the opportunity to plant many seeds of gospel truth while leading fun activities, games, and small group each day. There are 8 weeks of Kids Kamp (May 26th- July 24th, excluding the week of July 4th).
Work Hours: 7:30 am -5:30 pm | Monday-Friday | Summer
Heart and Attitude:
- Have a personal relationship with Jesus and trust that you are saved by grace through faith alone
- Have a heart for sharing the Gospel with children
- Work well with a team and with autonomy
- Model Christ-like behavior for other counselors and children
- Model enthusiastic, energetic attitude for other counselors and children
- Be punctual and exhibit a strong work ethic
- Previous experience with children in a ministry or camp setting is preferred
Responsibilities:
- Supervise and lead a group of 10-15 children each day
- Lead small group Bible discussions and life application of Bible lessons
- Know children by name
- Lead games and “filler” activities as needed
- Plan and teach or assist with track times (afternoon activities) each week
- Supervise and interact with children during snack and lunch times
- Supervise bathrooms and locker rooms as activities require
- Participate in opening and closing rallies each day – cheers, songs, games and silliness
- Attend morning meeting and afternoon meeting each week
- Participate in the early and late shift rotation as assigned
- Handle discipline issues with children and note in discipline log as needed
- Handle minor first-aid issues
- Be prepared to de-brief games and activities with small groups of children
Kids Kamp Specific Details:
- Understand the demands of a camp ministry that extend beyond a 40-hour work week
- Must be available and attend Kids Kamp staff training day in May
- Must be available weekdays May 26 – July 24, from 7:30a-5:30p (excluding the week of July 4th)
- Counselors can commit to work half a summer/ full summer but must be available to work at least 4 weeks and must clearly communicate schedule before being hired
