What are the responsibilities and job description for the Prevention Coordinator position at Sexual Trauma Awareness and Response?
Mission Statement: The mission of Sexual Trauma Awareness & Response (STAR) is to support survivors of sexual trauma, improve systems response, and create social change to end sexual violence.
Position Summary: The Prevention Coordinator works closely with STAR leadership and social change team members in developing, coordinating, and delivering prevention programming and community education and outreach to carry out STAR's mission.
Classification: 40 hours/week (Full-time, exempt)
Reports to: CEO
Supervises: N/A
Salary: $39,520. To ensure fairness and consistency for all team members, we do not negotiate salaries; our compensation packages are benchmarked against market rates and are determined by a clear compensation structure.
Position Duties
The Prevention Coordinator's primary duties are:
- Prevention Education & Training
- Oversee the planning and implementation of programmatic activities outlined in the Rape Prevention and Education (RPE) grant.
- Assist in researching and developing educational and training resources for sexual violence prevention strategies.
- Attend annual and monthly LaFASA RPE grantee meetings.
- Provide prevention education, community outreach presentations, and training within local K-12 schools and universities.
- Provide age-appropriate presentations to school-age children on dating violence, healthy relationships, body safety, and related topics.
- Provide systems change trainings and workshops for educators, law enforcement, and community members on how to identify and respond to children who have been exposed and/or have experienced domestic violence, dating violence, and/or stalking.
- Utilize feedback surveys to determine project effectiveness and make alterations to presentations as needed.
- Community Engagement & Partnerships
- Participate in ongoing community outreach events and meetings hosted by other organizations to promote awareness of STAR; goal is to attend at least one outreach event per month and conduct follow-up
- Conduct STAR 101 presentations to partner organizations and businesses; goal is to provide at least one presentation per month and conduct follow-up
- Initiate and develop community relationships to expand partnerships to all parts of our service area; conduct community needs assessments with community partners and add to EmpowerDB; goal is to attend at least two meetings with new partners per month.
- Public Campaigns
- Support the execution of public awareness and prevention campaigns.
- Collaborate with team members to design educational materials, outreach kits, and campaign visuals.
- Stay informed on issues related to sexual violence and the local community needs to ensure relevancy and sensitivity in volunteer and outreach efforts.
- Other Responsibilities
- Support creation and content development for social media, website, blog posts, videos, and newsletters as needed.
- Support the promotion of fundraising events, trainings, and community activities.
- Assist in growing online and in-person engagement and audience reach.
STAR requires all employees to consent to and successfully complete a full background investigation, which includes a criminal history check and fingerprinting.
