Administrative Assistant / Victim Advocate (Part‑Time)

SAFV Task Force is seeking a part‑time Administrative Assistant/Victim Advocate to support our Evanston office. This position combines administrative responsibilities with direct support for individuals experiencing domestic violence, sexual assault, stalking, elder abuse, dating violence, and human trafficking.
SAFV provides free, confidential, trauma‑informed services to residents of Uinta County.
Applicants must be at least 21 years old and able to complete a minimum 40‑hour Victim Advocacy and Legal Advocacy Training. A criminal background check and central registry check are required. Must have a clean driving record. Candidates must be able to work with individuals from all social, economic, racial, and religious backgrounds while maintaining a non‑biased, non‑judgmental approach. Applicants must also be at least one year removed from any personal domestic violence, sexual assault, or substance‑abuse situation.
Job Responsibilities
The Administrative Assistant/Victim Advocate manages daily office operations, including answering phones, greeting survivors, maintaining calendars, and supporting general office functions. The role includes maintaining accurate records, completing data entry, filing, and handling confidential client documentation. Additional responsibilities include drafting correspondence, managing email communication, supporting outreach efforts, and using office software, databases, and digital tools to assist staff and programs.
This position also provides direct victim advocacy services. Duties include offering trauma‑informed crisis support, assisting survivors with personalized safety planning, and helping individuals navigate resources such as emergency shelter, financial assistance, legal advocacy, and community services. The advocate participates in rotating on‑call shifts for the 24‑hour crisis line and provides walk‑in support at office locations. Responsibilities include completing required reports, making referrals, conducting follow‑ups, coordinating or facilitating support groups, assisting with filing reports or claims, and advocating with other service providers when appropriate.
Additional responsibilities include assisting with relocation efforts, providing orientation to the criminal justice system, accompanying survivors to court, notifying victims and witnesses of case status, assisting with restitution and victim impact statements. The role requires attending scheduled meetings, maintaining positive working relationships with partner agencies, and performing additional duties assigned by the Director or governing body. Staff are expected to maintain strong personal safety practices and situational awareness, contribute to facility cleanliness, assist volunteers, support the shelter manager, help shelter survivors, attend continuing education or assigned training, participate in public speaking engagements, transport clients when necessary, and travel between Evanston and other locations for court, hospital responses, or meetings. A vehicle is provided for work‑related travel.
Skills and Qualifications
Successful candidates will demonstrate assertiveness, sound decision‑making, proficiency in document preparation and computer skills, strong organizational abilities, and excellent communication and conflict‑management skills. A background in social work or behavioral health is preferred. The ability to maintain confidentiality and respect survivors’ autonomy is essential.
Required qualifications include strong organizational skills, effective verbal and written communication, comfort with technology and office software, the ability to maintain strict confidentiality, and a commitment to trauma‑informed, non‑judgmental support. Preferred qualifications include experience in victim advocacy, social services, or crisis response; familiarity with domestic violence and sexual assault issues; and bilingual ability in English and Spanish.
Work Schedule and Compensation
Part‑time position, typically up to 29 hours per week, and Full time up to 40 with occasional evening or on‑call requirements. Compensation is based on experience. SAFV is a nonprofit organization supported by state and community funding. Benefits may include professional development assistance and a retirement plan. The schedule generally includes Monday through Friday hours, with rotating weekends and on‑call shifts. Work is performed in person.
