Summary
Seward County is now accepting applications for the Emergency Management Director/Zoning Assistant position! This full-time position will focus their efforts between two main areas; protecting communities by coordinating and integrating all activities necessary to proactively respond and recover from threatened or actual natural disasters, acts of terrorism and other man-made disasters, and provide clerical and technical work for the Zoning Administrator by assisting with filing permits and customer service.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES
- Ability to be self-motivated, demonstrate accuracy and organizational skills.
- Knowledge of relevant equipment, policies, procedures, and strategies to promote effective local, state, and national security operations for the protection of people, data, property, and institutions.
- Computer skills and familiarity with common office software applications.
- Ability to interact professionally with public officials, emergency responders and the public to lead with confidence, patience and integrity.
- Excellent written and oral communication.
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with local, state and federal officials.
- Maintain confidentiality of work-related information and materials.
DESIRABLE TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE
- Minimum 2 years’ experience in emergency operations is desired along with completion of training programs prescribed by State and Federal emergency management authorities.
- Graduate of accredited emergency management program is desired but not required.
- Experience in zoning regulations, real estate, or permits preferred but not required.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Graduation from high school or GED equivalent.
- Must be authorized to work in the United States.
- Valid State of Nebraska driver license is required at the time of hire.
NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
- Must complete Basic Certification Program through the Nebraska Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) within one year of hire date or as NEMA scheduling
allows.
- Be NIMS compliant of required Independent Study Courses within six months of hire date.
- Complete ICS 300 and ICS 400 training within one year of hire date.
- Attain Certified Storm Spotter Certification within one year of hire date.
- Must have ability to utilize sound judgment in stressful and emergency situations in a variety of weather conditions.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $51,320.66 - $54,399.90 per year
