Position Overview
Primary Function:
The Assistant Football Coach (Coordinator) supports the head coach in all aspects of the football program, focusing on one side of the ball, management of position coaches, recruitment, and student-athlete development in accordance with NCAA Division III standards.
This position receives general supervision. Broad instructions are provided, and the staff member uses judgment and experience to carry out assignments. Completed assignments and finished products are reviewed by the supervisor after completion.

Position Description
Typical Duties & Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with the Head Coach in the creation of the scheme, playbook, game planning, and implementation
- Coach a specific position group, developing players' skills and techniques
- Assist in creating and implementing practice plans
- Recruit prospective student-athletes, maintaining thorough records in recruiting software
- Support student-athletes' academic progress and personal development
- Assist in equipment management and maintenance
- Participate in film study and opponent scouting
- Contribute to team travel planning and management
- Engage in community service initiatives and alumni relations
Additional Responsibilities
Coaching Duties:
Assist with practice planning, game strategy development, and position-specific coaching (e.g., linebackers or defensive backs).
- Contribute to pre- and post-season conditioning programs in collaboration with strength and conditioning staff.
Recruitment Support:
Evaluate prospective student-athletes through scouting and on-campus visits.
- Maintain recruitment reports to support the head coach's strategic planning.
Academic Monitoring:
Monitor student-athletes' academic progress and provide support to ensure eligibility and personal development.
Facility Management:
Assist with the maintenance of training facilities, including weight rooms, ensuring safety protocols are followed.
Community Engagement:
Participate in community outreach programs to promote the football program and foster relationships with alumni and donors.
Additional Assignments:
Perform other duties as assigned by the head coach or athletic director, such as assisting with compliance meetings or event scheduling.
Judgement Required:
Performance of the essential duties of this position is dependent upon independent ingenuity and development efforts.
Personal Interaction/Communication:
- Student Contact: Daily; recruiting, conducting campus visits, instructing physical education classes, and coaching
- Internal: Periodic; addressing student athletes' schedule problems, academic problems, or personal issues; collaborating with the Office of Admissions in recruiting efforts.
- External: Periodic; scheduling events/competitions with other institutions, periodic; communicating with parents of student athletes, alumni groups, and media
Attributes of a Successful Candidate
Education:
Bachelor's degree in Physical Education or related field
Experience:
- 3-5 years of coaching experience, preferably at the collegiate level
- Playing experience at the collegiate level preferred
Job-Related Skills:
- Strong understanding of football fundamentals and strategies
- Excellent interpersonal and motivational skills
- Knowledge of NCAA rules and regulations
Requires a commitment to the principles of NCAA Division III athletics, emphasizing the balance between academic achievement and athletic participation. The successful candidates will demonstrate a passion for developing student-athletes both on and off the field
Licenses & Certifications:
Valid Tennessee Driver's license; NCAA Compliance certification

Working Environment:
- Work is performed in an office environment with a significant amount of time spent either outdoors on playing fields, in a pool area, or in other athletic facilities as specific sport(s) require.
- Significant travel is required for recruiting and competition.
Physical Requirements:
- Must be able to stand for extended periods of time.
- Must be able to walk for extended periods of time.
- Must be able to climb (many stairs, ladders).
