Position Summary
The Substitute Teacher provides classroom support and assists in maintaining a safe, nurturing, and engaging learning environment for children. Substitute staff may work in infant, toddler or preschool classrooms depending on qualifications and staffing needs.
Substitutes play an important role in ensuring continuity of care and classroom operations while supporting teaching staff and center teams.
Essential Responsibilities
- Assist with supervision and engagement of children in the classroom
- Support classroom routines, activities, and transitions
- Help maintain a safe, clean, and positive learning environment
- Encourage children’s social, emotional, and educational development
- Assist with classroom setup, organization, and cleaning
- Maintain professionalism and positive communication with staff and families
- Follow agency policies, classroom procedures, and safety expectations
- Support meal, nap, playground, and activity supervision as assigned
- Maintain confidentiality regarding children, families, and staff
Qualifications
- Minimum of a High school diploma or GED required
- Experience working with children preferred but not required
- Positive attitude and willingness to learn
- Dependable and flexible
- Ability to work collaboratively with staff and children
- Must obtain required clearances and physical
Schedule
- Flexible based on availability - prefer a minimum of 2 days of availability
- Daytime hours available
- Full-day and partial-day opportunities
- Multiple center locations - Irwin, Jeannette, Ligonier and New Kensington
